Donghe District Donghe District is under the jurisdiction of Baotou City in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It belongs to the old urban area of Baotou City and gets its name because Donghe River (formerly known as Botuo River) flows through the area. It is adjacent to tumed Right Banner in the East, Dalate Banner of Ordos City across the Yellow River in the south, Jiuyuan District in the West and Shiguai District in the north. It has a temperate continental climate, covering an area of 470 square kilometers. Historical evolution
Donghe River, with Daqingshan in the north and the Yellow River in the south, was once the center of contradictions between the northern nomads and the Central Plains dynasties in history, and also one of the typical areas of national integration. With the change of the balance of power between the Central Plains Dynasty and the northern minorities, the jurisdiction of Baotou and Donghe administrative region is also constantly changing.
In 1760 (the 25th year of Qianlong), Baotou was a village under the jurisdiction of Salaqi hall.
In 1809 (the fourteenth year of Jiaqing), the population of Baotou increased greatly, the commercial market town was formed, and the village was changed into a town.
In 1912, the general office of Salaqi was changed to Salaqi County, and Baotou town was under its jurisdiction.
In 1923, pingsui railway was opened to traffic to Baotou, and Baotou Administrative Bureau was established to separate from Salaqi county.
