Gucheng area belongs to Yuzhou in ancient times.
In the 11th century BC, the surname Ying (named SUI) was granted the name of GuBo in Zhou Dynasty. The capital city was built in Gushan, named GuBo state, also known as guguo.
In the spring and Autumn period, the state of Gu was a vassal of Chu.
In Qin Dynasty, Zhuyang county was established by Zhushui, belonging to Nanyang County.
After Qin Dynasty, Fufeng County, Yicheng County, Fanyang County, Yicheng County and Wannian county were set up successively.
In 598, it was renamed Gucheng County, and its name is still used today.
In Sui, Tang, song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, Gucheng was subordinate to Nanyang County, Xiangyang County, Jingzhou Dudu Prefecture and Xiangyang Prefecture.
During the period of the Republic of China, Gucheng County was successively subordinate to the recruitment office of Yunjing Road, Anxiang branch of Hubei military government. From manaoguan village of Zijin town to geleizui village of Chengguan Town, the river flows 74 km, with a drainage area of 1051.3 square kilometers. Beihe river originates from nanjingou, Fangxian County, at the south foot of Wudang Mountain. The main stream is 103 km long, with a drainage area of 1212 square kilometers. The average annual precipitation in the basin is 997.5 mm, and the annual runoff is 460 million cubic meters. From yanjiazhou village of Zijin town to Hanjiang River at Angang village of Chengguan Town, the flow is 59.6km long and the drainage area is 894.71km2.
