In the reign of Duke li of the Qin Dynasty, Yiqu was first attacked. Later, Empress Dowager Xuan of the Qin Dynasty lured the king of Yiqu to Ganquan palace and set up Yiqu county. After Qin Shihuang unified the six countries, it was divided into 36 counties in the whole country, which were surrounded by Beidi counties.
In the Western Han Dynasty, the whole country was divided into thirteen prefectures. The northern prefectures were governed by Maling (today's Maling town) and Lingxian (today's Maling town). The northern prefectures were governed by fangqu County, which is located at the intersection of Huanjiang River and Hedao Chuankou, about Zhangqi in the Northwest of Quzi town. In the later Han Dynasty, it belonged to the northern Prefecture of the History Department of Liangzhou.

In the fourth year of Tianfu (939) of Jin Dynasty in the Five Dynasties, fangqu town was upgraded to Weizhou (the spiritual state of fangqu at that time), which was subordinate to Lingwu and belonged to kembo and Maling towns. In 952, Zhou Guangshun changed Weizhou to Huanzhou because he avoided the taboo of Guowei. This is the earliest record of Huanxian as "Huanzhou". In September of 957, Zhou Shizong was demoted to Tongyuan army.
In the fifth year of Chunhua in the Northern Song Dynasty (994), it was restored to Huanzhou, Lingxian and Tongyuan. It belongs to Huanqing Road, pacification envoy and Qingyang mansion.
In the Jin Dynasty, it belonged to the ring state of Qingyuan Road and led the county to Tongyuan.

In 1369, the second year of Hongwu (1369), Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, Huanzhou was changed into Huanxian, which was under the jurisdiction of Qingyang Prefecture of Shanxi Province.
Because of this, Qing Dynasty still belongs to Qingyang Prefecture. In the eighth year of Kangxi (1669), Gansu Province was established. Huan county was changed from Shaanxi Province to Gansu Province. Since the yuan and Ming Dynasties, the county government has been in the county.
