Yidu, a county-level city directly under the central government of Hubei Province and under the administration of Yichang City, is located on the South Bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in Southwest Hubei Province. Historical evolution
The discovery of honghuataochengbeixi Neolithic site in Yidu confirmed that human beings had been living and reproducing on this land more than 5000 years before the county was established.
During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, the county belonged to Chu.
In Qin Dynasty, the county belonged to Nanjun.
In the 11th year of Gaozu (196 B.C.) of the Western Han Dynasty, Yidu had set up a county system, named Yidao County, which was located in today's Lucheng and subordinate to Nanjun. At the end of the Western Han Dynasty, it was renamed Jiangnan county and soon renamed Yidao county.
In 208, the 13th year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty, it belonged to Linjiang county. In the 15th year of Jian'an, Liu Bei changed Linjiang County into Yidu County, which governed the present land city and governed Yidao County, Xiling county and Xishan county. In 219, Wu general Lu Xun occupied Yidu county and acquired Yidao, Zhijiang, Yiling, Zigui and other counties. At that time, the county belonged to Wu.
During the period of the Three Kingdoms, Yidu Prefecture belonged to wujingzhou, which governed Zigui, Xiling, Yidao and Xishan counties.
In the Jin Dynasty, Yidu County belonged to Jingzhou, which governed Yidao County, Jishan county and Yiling county. In the Taihe period of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Yidao was renamed Xidao County, and later it was still renamed Yidao.
In 420, the first year of Yongchu reign of Emperor Wu of Song Dynasty, Yidao county was established as Yichang County, and then Yidu County governed four counties, namely Yidao County, Xishan County, Yiling county and Yichang county. In the Western Wei Dynasty, Yidu Prefecture belonged to zhezhou, which governed Bashan, Yidao, Guihua and Yiling counties. In the Southern Dynasty of Chen Dynasty, Houliang and Chen divided the county into two counties, Jiangbei Yidao and Jiangnan Yidao. Jiangbei Yidao county belongs to Houliang, Jiangnan Yidao county belongs to Chen. In the first year of Chen Tianjia (560), Yidao County in Jiangnan was changed into Yidu county.
In 587, Yidu county was abolished and changed to Yichang County, which first belonged to Songzhou and then to Nanjun. Jiangbei Yidao is still named Yidao County, belonging to xiazhou. In the third year of Daye (607), xiazhou was changed into Yiling County, and Yidao county was changed into Yiling county.
In the early Tang Dynasty, Yichang and Yidao were still set up in the county. In 619, Yichang county was changed into Yidu County, belonging to Jiangzhou. In 634, Yidao county was merged into Yidu County, belonging to xiazhou County, the capital of Jingzhou.
In the Song Dynasty, Yidu County belonged to Yiling County, xiazhou, Jinghu North Road.
In Yuan Dynasty, Yidu County belonged to xuanweisi mountain, North Jinghu Road, North Nanjiang Road, xiazhou Road, Henan Province.
In the Ming Dynasty, Yidu County belonged to Yiling Prefecture, Jingzhou Prefecture of Huguang Prefecture.
In 1647, Yidu was subordinate to Yiling Prefecture, Jingzhou Prefecture. In 1735, Yidu was changed to Jingzhou Prefecture. Tongzhi four years (1865), the county set up 14 shop, 36 Bao, 99 A, 13 towns.
In the early years of the Republic of China, Yidu County belonged to Jingnan Road, Hubei Province. In 1922, it belonged to jingyidao. In 1930, there were 4 districts and 13 market towns. In 1932, it was the ninth administrative supervision district of Hubei Province, and in 1936, it was the sixth administrative supervision district of Hubei Province. In June 1949, the county was divided into three districts, one supervision district and 17 townships.
In July 1949, Yidu county was liberated and its people's government was established.
In February 1955, with the approval of the State Council, Zhijiang county was abolished and its jurisdiction was put under the jurisdiction of Yidu county.
In December 1962, the system of Zhijiang county was restored, and six districts including Baiyang and Jiangkou Town were under the jurisdiction of Zhijiang county.
On November 30, 1987, the State Council approved the abolition of Yidu county and the establishment of Zhicheng (county level).
In June 1998, Zhicheng City changed its name to Yidu city.
From 1949 to 1957, Yidu county was under the jurisdiction of Yichang district; from 1958 to 1961, it was under the jurisdiction of Yidu industrial zone; from 1962 to 1969, it was under the jurisdiction of Yichang district; from 1970 to 1992, it was under the jurisdiction of Yichang district.

The river section in the city is 45 kilometers long. Qingjiang River flows into the Yangtze River from Changyang in the west to the urban area. The river section within the city is 33 km long. Yuyang River (also known as Hanyang River) enters Wufeng county and flows through Panjiawan, Niejiahe, Wuyanquan and Yaojiadian towns. It flows into Qingjiang River at the junction of Wuyanquan town and Yaojiadian town. It is a tributary of Qingjiang River with a river section of 60 km in the city.
