Tongchuan District Tongchuan District, subordinate to Dazhou City, Sichuan Province, is located in the northeast of Sichuan and the middle of Dazhou city. It is adjacent to Xuanhan County in the northeast, Dachuan District in the southwest and Pingchang County in the northwest. As of October 2018, Tongchuan District has 5 sub district offices, 12 towns and 1 township. It covers an area of 900 square kilometers and has a permanent resident population of 782100. It is a national advanced area for scientific and technological progress, a national demonstration city for harmonious community construction, a national demonstration base for agricultural products processing industry, an advanced area for safe construction, an advanced area for hilly areas, and a rural tourism demonstration area.
Tongchuan District was set up as a district in 1999. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Dazhou city. The municipal Party committee, the municipal government, the Municipal People's Congress and the Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference are all located in Tongchuan, known as the "heart of Dazhou"; there are Xiangyu railway, Dazhou railway, Dazhou Wanzhou railway and four expressways of Dazhou Chongqing, Dazhou Shaanxi, Dazhou Wanzhou and Bada in Tongchuan, which is the transportation hub of Northeast Sichuan and the material distribution center of Sichuan, Chongqing and Shaanxi, known as the "gateway of Northeast Sichuan".

Historical evolution
Tongchuan District is named after ancient Tongchuan county and Tongchuan county. In Sui Dynasty, Tongzhou was changed into Tongchuan County, and Shicheng County into Tongchuan County, implying that the land was connected to the four reaches.
In ancient times, it belonged to Badi and was called Liangzhou in summer. Xuanhan county was established in the east of Dangqu County in the Eastern Han Dynasty.
In the Western Wei Dynasty, it was changed into Shicheng County, belonging to TongZhou; in the third year of Daye of Sui Dynasty (607), Tongzhou was changed into Tongchuan county;
Tang Wude first year (618) renamed TongZhou; Tang Wude three years (621), set up in Tongchuan County Governor House: Fu Lingtong, Da Qizhou, 27 counties under the jurisdiction. In the seventh year of Wude (624), the general manager's office was changed into the governor's office: the office led Kyushu and governed 36 counties. In the fifth year of Zhenguan (632), the governor's office was the state.
In the third year of Qiande (965) of Song Dynasty, Tongzhou was changed into Dazhou, in the ninth year of Hongwu (1376) of Ming Dynasty, Tongzhou was demoted to county, and in the ninth year of Zhengde (1514) of Ming Dynasty, Tongzhou was upgraded to prefecture.
In 1728, Dazhou was promoted to Zhili Prefecture, which belonged to the east of Sichuan. The Qing Dynasty changed Dazhou into suiding Prefecture. Take Dazhou as the name of the county, and add Daxian as Fu Guo Shou county. In 1914, it belonged to Dongchuan Road.
In 1950, it was subordinate to Daxian District of northern Sichuan administrative office, in 1952, it was subordinate to Daxian District of Sichuan Province, in 1968, it was changed into a district. In 1976, it was separated from Daxian district and established Daxian City, which was renamed as Dachuan city in 1993 and Tongchuan District in 1999.

The Zhouhe river flows around the city from northeast to southwest, dividing Tongchuan into Southeast and northwest parts. Floodplain and first and second terraces are formed along the valley. The lowest water level is 260m-269.9m above sea level. The altitude is 748.3-872.6 meters in the East, 596.4 meters in the south, 1068.5 meters in the west, 790.5 meters in the north and lower in the central valley. The rivers in Tongchuan District belong to the Yangtze River Basin. The largest river is Zhouhe River, which flows from northeast to southwest through Luojiang Town, Beiwai Town, Dongcheng Town, Xicheng Town, Chaoyang sub district office, to longjiamiao village of Xiwai town. Tongchuan District is 34 kilometers long, with a drainage area of 388.2 square kilometers, an average annual flow of 192.7 cubic meters per second, a natural drop of 16 meters, and 21 beaches. The main tributaries are Mingyue River and Shuanglong River, and another 38 streams are distributed along the river basin. Lianhuahu reservoir, a medium-sized reservoir, has an effective storage capacity of 6.75 million cubic meters and an effective irrigation area of 22000 mu.

By the end of 2017, Tongchuan District had 60 million tons of proven coal reserves, 6.25 million tons of usable shale for brick and tile, 9.5 million tons of construction sandstone and 7.12 million tons of construction stone limestone; 13 kinds of mineral resources have been identified, including 10 kinds of non-metallic mineral resources and 3 kinds of energy minerals. There are coal, iron, natural gas, rock salt, limestone and other underground resources. Coal is mainly distributed in the axis of Tieshan anticline, with reserves of 60 million tons. The thickness of coal seam is generally 20-90 cm, with fixed carbon content of 50% - 55%, and calorific value of 5500-6500 kcal / kg. The iron ore is mainly phosphorite, with proved reserves of 170000 tons. The proved reserves of natural gas are 15 billion cubic meters. The proven Shuanglong 26 well of rock salt mine has 23 layers of salt, with a total thickness of 210 meters, class C reserves of 12.63 million tons and class D reserves The reserves are 210 million tons; the limestone mine is distributed in Tieshan anticline, with geological reserves of 65 million tons.
