Wanbailin District Wanbailin District is a municipal district under the jurisdiction of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, China, which is the west gate of Taiyuan. The District People's government is located at 35 xikuang street.
Wanbailin District is located on the West Bank of Fenhe River, adjacent to Longshan mountains in the west, Jinyuan District in the south, Jiancaoping District in the north, and Yingze District and Xinghualing district across the river. It covers an area of 304.8 square kilometers. As of 2013, Wanbailin District has a permanent population of 554000, including more than 80000 agricultural population.

The origin of the name
"Wanbailin" got its name because Yan Xishan planned to plant cypress forest here.
Historical evolution
Hexi area was under the jurisdiction of Yangqu and Taiyuan counties in Ming and Qing Dynasties. At the beginning of the Republic of China, the government was abandoned and returned to Jining road.
In March 1943, the puppet Taiyuan Municipal Office extended the western boundary of its jurisdiction to Baijiazhuang, and the Hexi area came under the jurisdiction of Taiyuan.
From March 1945 to March 1949, Taiyuan city was divided into 16 districts, namely inner 8 districts (urban area) and outer 8 districts (suburb). Hexi is the third, fourth and Fifth District of outer 8 districts.
After the liberation of Taiyuan, in May 1949, Taiyuan Municipal People's Government merged 16 districts into 8 districts, and Hexi was the seventh district.
In August 1950, it was changed into the Fifth District of Taiyuan city.
In June 1954, it was changed into Wanbailin District.
On March 12, 1957, Wanbailin District was abolished and put under the jurisdiction of Taiyuan suburb.
Hexi District of Taiyuan city was established on July 14, 1958.
In June 1960, the establishment of Hexi District was abolished and four municipal people's communes, namely Yijing, Heping, Wanbailin and Xishan, were established.
In March 1963, the urban people's commune was abolished, and the construction of Hexi District was restored in May. In November of the same year, Xishan industrial and mining area was established on the basis of the former Xishan people's commune.
In February 1963, Xishan industrial and mining area was abolished, and its jurisdiction still belongs to Hexi District.
The construction of Hexi District remained unchanged from 1963 to 1990.
In 1990, 12 streets were under the jurisdiction of Hexi District, namely Xiayuan, Yijing, Luocheng, Heping, Wanbailin, Nanhan, Baijiazhuang, Duerping, Kaicheng, dahugou, Qianfeng and Guandi sub district offices.
On May 8, 1997, the State Council approved the abolition of Nancheng District, Beicheng District, Hexi District, Nanjiao district and Beijiao District of Taiyuan city and the establishment of Xiaodian District, Yingze District, Xinghualing District, Jiancaoping District, Wanbailin District and Jinyuan District of Taiyuan city. Wanbailin District governs 11 streets of Wanbailin, Heping, Qianfeng, Xinghua, Xiayuan, Duerping, Nanhan, Baijiazhuang, dahugou, Kaicheng and Guandi in the former Hexi District, and 5 townships of Ximing, huaketou, Wangfeng, xiaojingyu and Dongshe (excluding xiaodongliu, Dadongliu and Xiliu villages) in the former northern suburb. The District People's government is located in xikuang street.

In 2001, Dongshe township was changed into Dongshe street and huaketou Township into huaketou street.
In 2007, Kaicheng street, Guandi street, dahugou street, xiaojingyu Township and Ximing Township were abolished, and xiaojingyu street, Ximing street, Changfeng West Street and Shentanggou street were established, and the administrative areas of other streets were adjusted appropriately.

Wanbailin District is located in the west of Taiyuan City, 37 ° 44'40 "to 37 ° 55" north latitude and 112 ° 21'53 "to 112 ° 31'30" east longitude. The district is crisscross with the urban and rural areas in the South and north suburbs. It is bounded by Fenhe River in the East, and faces the South and North urban districts across the river. Geology and geomorphology
The terrain of Wanbailin District is high in the West and low in the East. The East is a belt plain. It is a part of Taiyuan Basin. The ground is flat. The west is a slow slope from east to west. The altitude is between 780 m and 1400 m. The lowest point of Fenhe River is 776 M. In the west, there are undulating mountains and ravines. The mountains run north-south, with the highest peak at Guandi mountain, 1497m above sea level.
The geological structure of Wanbailin area is Xishan syncline coal basin of Taiyuan and collapse area of Fenhe River Basin. The strata mainly belong to metamorphic rock series, sedimentary rock series and loose deposit series.
river system
Fenhe River is the largest river flowing through Wanbailin District. It originates from Leiming Temple of Guancen mountain in Ningwu County, enters from Shele village, and flows from north to south through Dadongliu, Pengcun, houbeitun, Wayao, Houwang village, Wujiabao, Xizhai to Guzhai village. It runs through the east of Wanbailin District, with a flow length of 20 kilometers, belonging to the middle reaches. There are Huyu River, jiuyuansha River, Yumen River, yeyusha River and Jinyang Lake in Wanbailin District.

Wanbailin District has four distinct seasons and large temperature difference between day and night, which is a typical north temperate continental climate. Due to the influence of Northwest Airflow, it is windy and sandy in spring, hot and rainy in summer, cool and pleasant in autumn and dry and cold in winter. It is characterized by cold winter and hot summer, wet spring and cool autumn, long winter and short summer, and slightly longer autumn than spring. The rainy season is July, August and September, with an average annual precipitation of 480 mm-500mm. The sunshine is abundant throughout the year, with an average of 2800 hours. The frost period is from mid October to mid April of the next year, and the frost free period is 120 to 190 days. The annual average temperature is between 9.5 ℃ and 11 ℃. The average temperature in January was - 6.4 ℃ and that in July was 23.5 ℃. The highest temperature was 39.4 ℃ and the lowest temperature was - 25.6 ℃.

The mineral resources of Wanbailin District are mainly coal, of which Xishan coalfield covers an area of 541 square kilometers, the thickness of coal seam is 14-18 meters, and the coal storage capacity is 7.03 billion tons. In addition, it also contains a large amount of gypsum ore with a reserve of 40 million tons, as well as carbon rock which can be used as cement raw materials, chemical raw materials and building materials.
