Yuexiu District, the municipal district of Guangzhou, is located in the central part of Guangdong Province, bordering Tianhe District from Guangzhou Avenue in the East, Haizhu District across the river from the Pearl River in the south, Liwan District from Renmin Road in the west, and Baiyun District from the foot of Baiyun Mountain in the north.
Yuexiu District has 18 streets, 1 million 158 thousand and 400 of the total registered residence (six PU), and the population density is 34735 / sq km. In 2005, Yuexiu District became the central city with the smallest area and the highest population density in Guangzhou.
Yuexiu District is the oldest central city of Guangzhou. Since the establishment of Nanhai County in Yuexiu District in the Qin Dynasty, Zhao Tuo, king of Nanyue in the Western Han Dynasty, built the palace of Nanyue state, and Liu Gong, king of Nanyue in the Southern Han Dynasty, built the Guangying palace. Since the establishment of Guangzhou in the eastern Wu Dynasty, the military and administrative centers of all dynasties have been in Yuexiu area.
Yuexiu District is a collection of cultural relics and historic sites of eight dynasties for more than 2000 years. Wuyang stone statue, Zhenhai tower, Beijing Road, Zhongshan Memorial Hall, Wuxian temple, Liurong temple, Guangxiao temple, Shishi Shengxin Cathedral, Nanyue King Museum of Western Han Dynasty are all in the district.
As the political, scientific, technological, educational and cultural center of Guangzhou, Yuexiu District has formed an industrial pattern with the tertiary industry as the main body, the characteristic economy as the driving force, and the business service industry as the support. Zhongshan fifth road is the most prosperous business center and ancient city cultural tourism area in Guangzhou. Historical evolution
On October 14, 1949, Guangzhou was liberated. In December of the same year, Guangzhou was divided into 28 districts and District People's governments were established respectively. In December 1949, jinyuexiu district was divided into the following seven districts: Xishan District, Defu District, Jinghai District, Xiaobei district (most), Taiping District (part) and Yonghan district (part).
In June 1950, the 28 districts of Guangzhou were merged into 16 districts. The scope of jinyuexiu district includes the then deyuexiu district (now the north of Yuexiu District), HuiFu District, Taiping District (part) and Yonghan district (part).
In September 1952, Guangzhou was re divided into urban and suburban districts. The city governs seven districts: East, South, West, north, central, suburban and Pearl River. The scope of today's Yuexiu District was the Northern District (most part) and the central district (part) at that time.
In July 1960, eight administrative streets (Taiping, Decheng, Daxin, Shishu, Yide, jiefangnan, Danan, Taikang) in the central district were merged into the northern district. The northern district was renamed Yuexiu, and then yonghannan, Zhuguang, dezhengnan, Datang, Fangcao were put under the jurisdiction of Dongshan District.
In April 2005, Yuexiu District was under the jurisdiction of the former administrative region of Dongshan District, including the mineral spring street in Baiyun District, the Dengfeng street in Tianhe District, the Yangji street in Tianhe South Street, the two neighborhood committees in Zhongshan and the Shadong street.
