Historical evolution
Puning Prefecture belonged to Jieyang County of Nanhai County in Han Dynasty, and Chaoyang County of Dongguan County in the sixth year of Xianhe in Eastern Jin Dynasty (331). From Jin Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Yi'an Prefecture and Chaozhou Prefecture of Guangdong Province.
In the first month of the 42nd year of Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (1563), the imperial court decided to set up Puning County, covering an area of about 1000 square kilometers, from Chaoyang County, Chaozhou Prefecture, Guangdong Province, to the three capitals of Yangwu, Jianshui and Huangkeng. In 1565, Zhao Yue, the first magistrate of the county, took office. The county office was set up in the minshe of Guiyu, Chaoyang County. Wanli fourteen years (1586) County moved to Houyu (Hongyang). In the 10th year of Wanli (1582), Yangwu and Jianshui were assigned to Chaoyang County, while only Huangkeng city remained in Puning County, covering an area of 456 square kilometers.
Puning was subordinate to Chaozhou Prefecture of Guangdong Province in Ming and Qing Dynasties.
In June 1732, the imperial court approved that 170 villages in boshuidu, 93 villages in the western part of guishandu, and 45 villages in yangwudu were included in Puning county. Together with 357 villages in huangkengdu, Puning had a total area of 1052.25 square kilometers.
After the founding of the Republic of China, the government level was abolished. Puning County belonged to chaoxun, Chaomei rehabilitation office in 1920, Dongjiang Administrative Region in 1925, Dongjiang rehabilitation office in 1928, and Eastern appeasement area in 1932.
On October 1, 1935, the Guangdong provincial government designated 41 villages in Dananshan of Puning County, covering an area of 132.75 square kilometers, belonging to Nanshan Administrative Bureau (county level). Puning County covers an area of 919.50 square kilometers.
In 1936, it was the fifth administrative region of Guangdong Province.
On July 1, 1949, the people's Government of Puning county was established and the county seat was located in Liusha.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was subordinate to Chaoshan special region of Guangdong Province.
On March 15, 1950, the people's Government of Guangdong Province made regional adjustment: 505 villages including Nanyang Mountain Area in Huilai County and Daping Township in Lufeng County, Xikeng Township in Nanshan Administration Bureau, jiudou and Wushi village in Jieyang county were assigned to Puning county. In June of that year, Kaoxi and rilu villages in Puning county and dongguanqiao and Xinzhai villages in Mianhu county were assigned to Jieyang County; Guiyu, Guiyu, Nan'an, Shiqiaotou and Junbu villages in Puning county were assigned to Chaoyang County.
In 1952, it belonged to eastern Guangdong administrative region, and in 1956, it belonged to Shantou special region.
In May 1958, the people's Committee of Guangdong Province decided to put dachanglong township (outside shanbing Village) in Chaoyang County, Shigang and Fuyu villages in Chendian Township and Wanzi, baijiling, baimake, Yangxia, Baishaxi, Lingwei, dagutan, Wangling and Longtan villages in Shichuan Township under the jurisdiction of Puning County, covering an area of about 1600 square kilometers.
In December 1958, Huicheng, Longjiang, Qijiang, Kuitan and other people's communes in Huilai County were incorporated into Puning county. In March 1961, Huilai County resumed its organizational system, and the former people's commune of Huilai County was returned.
In 1968, it belonged to Shantou area.
In February 1975, Shantou regional Revolutionary Committee decided to put Gongshan, Huxi and Sixiang villages in Puning County under Jiexi County. Puning County covers an area of 1591.55 square kilometers.
