Chancheng District is subordinate to Foshan City, Guangdong Province. It is one of the five administrative districts of Foshan City. It ranks 16th among the top 100 districts in China. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Foshan City. It is located in the central part of Guangdong Province and the downtown area of Foshan City. Chancheng District is surrounded by Nanhai District of Foshan City on three sides, and adjacent to Shunde District in the southeast and south. It is about 30 kilometers away from Liwan District, Yuexiu District, Tianhe District, Haizhu District and Panyu District of Guangzhou. It is close to Guangzhou, Shenzhen and other famous cities in the Pearl River Delta. It is the "center" of politics, economy, science, education, culture and health of Foshan, the third city in Guangdong.
As of 2018, Chancheng District has three streets, 145 villages (communities), Nanzhuang Town and zumiao, Shiwan Town and Zhangcha, with a permanent population of 1.23 million and a total area of 154.09 square kilometers.
Zumiao street in Chancheng District, formerly known as Foshan Town, is one of the four famous towns in ancient China, one of the four gathering places in the world, one of the birthplaces of Lingnan culture and a national historical and cultural city. It is a famous town of martial arts, patent medicine and folk art, with eight historical and cultural street areas densely preserved. Chancheng is the political, financial, cultural, transportation and information center of Foshan City. The tertiary industry is highly developed in Foshan. Foshan Chancheng, the largest commodity distribution center in southern China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, was listed as one of the "four major gatherings" (Beijing, Foshan, Suzhou and Hankou). Chancheng District is the birthplace of Cantonese Opera and one of the birthplaces of Lingnan culture.
In October 2018, it was selected as one of the top 100 investment potential areas, top 100 science and technology innovation areas and top 100 green development areas in 2018. Evolution of organizational system
Foshan "originated in Jin Dynasty and got its name from Tang Dynasty". As early as the Tang and Song Dynasties, handicraft industry, commerce and culture were very prosperous. By the Northern Song Dynasty, Foshan had developed into an important Lingnan town with a large number of merchants and developed industry and commerce. Together with Hankou town in Hubei Province, Jingdezhen town in Jiangxi Province and Zhuxian Town in Henan Province, Foshan was known as China's "four famous towns".
The pre Qin period belongs to Baiyue. In 222 B.C., after Ying Zheng, king of Qin, unified the six states, he sent Tu Sui to lead 500000 Qin troops to attack Lingnan because of the southern expedition to the king of Baiyue. In 214 B.C., the Qin troops basically occupied Lingnan. Then, the first emperor of Qin set up three prefectures, Guilin, Xiang and Nanhai. Chancheng belongs to Nanhai county.
In Jin Dynasty, Chan City was called "Jihua township". In the second year of Tang Zhenguan (628), Jihua township was called "Foshan", which means "mountain of Buddhism" and "Zen" for short.
In the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, Foshan Chancheng and Shunde belonged to Xianning County, which was merged into Nanhai County in the early Song Dynasty.
In 1452, Foshan was granted the title of "Zhongyi township", belonging to Nanhai county.
During the period of the Republic of China, Foshan successively established Foshan Town, Foshan City and Foshan town.
On October 31, 1949, Foshan Municipal People's government was established.

On December 8, 2002, the State Council approved (Guo Han No. 109) to adjust the administrative division of Foshan City: to abolish the urban area and Shiwan District of Foshan City and establish Chancheng District of Foshan City. The former administrative areas of Foshan City, Shiwan District and Nanzhuang Town of Nanhai city are the administrative areas of Chancheng District. In 2002, Chancheng District had jurisdiction over 8 streets (south of Jiangwan City, Mentou, Tongji City, Yongan pujun, Shengping ancestral temple) and 5 towns (Nanzhuang, Zhangcha ring city, Lanshi Shiwan).
On September 18, 2003, with the approval of the provincial people's government and the reply of the Provincial Department of civil affairs, it was agreed to abolish the organizational system of Zhangcha, Huanshi and Lanshi town in Chancheng District, and set up Zhangcha, Huanshi and Lanshi sub district offices respectively; to abolish Shiwan and Jiangwan sub district offices, and merge their administrative regions to set up Shiwan sub district office. With the approval of the Municipal People's government, the Chengmentou sub district office will be canceled and its administrative region will be merged into zumiao sub district office; Yong'an sub district office will be canceled and its administrative region will be merged into Shengping sub district office; Tongji sub district office will be canceled and its administrative region will be merged into pujun sub district office. Geology and geomorphology
The geology of Chancheng District belongs to Quaternary strata, mainly composed of clay, and other sand layers with different grain sizes, belonging to the seventh degree seismic area. The mineral resources are mainly non-metallic minerals, with wide distribution of gypsum stone, thick bed, wide bed, good quality and abundant reserves. It belongs to lacustrine evaporite gypsum salt deposit related to fault basin.
Chancheng District is a flat alluvial plain, most of which are 1.3-4.6 meters above sea level, with sporadic hills below 50 meters above sea level. The landform is dominated by accumulation series, with single type, belonging to delta plain. The delta plain is composed of sandy loam and silt, which is the top deposit of the Pearl River Delta. Most of the surface is covered by loose sediments, about 15-25m thick.
