Jian'ou Jian'ou (belonging to Jian'an County of Jianning Prefecture and ou'ning County in ancient times) is short for Zhi. Jianning Prefecture Office and Jianzhou Prefecture Office. It is a large agricultural city, a provincial ecological city and a provincial garden city in the north of Fujian Province. Located between Wuyi mountain range and Jiufeng Mountain range, it covers a total area of 4233 square kilometers. It governs 10 towns, 4 townships, 4 streets, 217 villages and 27 residents' committees. It is a county-level city with the largest land area and the largest population in Northern Fujian Province, with the Han nationality as the main group and 10 ethnic minorities such as she and Miao. With a written history of more than 3000 years, it is a provincial historical and cultural city with a history of more than 1800 years. Zhu Xi, a neo Confucianist, Yang Rong, one of the three Yang assistant politicians, Yuan Shu, a historian, Wu Yu, a phonologist, Xu Jing, a diplomat, Wu Ji, a litterateur, and Yang Junde, a pioneer of modern revolution were born here.

Historical evolution
In the early years of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (196), the land of Houguan North Township was divided and Jian'an county was set up.
In the eighth year of Jian'an (203), He Qi entered Jian'an and established Duwei mansion in the south.
In the third year of Wu Yong'an in the Three Kingdoms (260), Jian'an county was set up. The county was governed by the southern Duwei of Wu Kuaiji county. It had jurisdiction over 10 counties, including Jian'an (now Jian'ou), Jianping (now Jianyang), Wuxing (now Pucheng), Dongping (now Jianning), Jiangle, Zhaowu (now Shaowu), sui'an (now Taining and Jianning), Nanping, Houguan (now Fuzhou) and Dong'an (now Tong'an and Nan'an) And changed the Duwei to Taishou.
During the reign of emperor Hui of Jin Dynasty (291-306), Jian'an Prefecture belonged to Jiangzhou (now Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province) and had jurisdiction over seven counties, namely Jian'an, Dongping, Wuxing, Jianyang, Jiangle, Shaowu and Yanping (now Nanping).
In the Southern Song Dynasty, Jian'an still belonged to Jiangzhou.
In the second year of Chen Yongding (558), Jian'an county was changed to minzhou (today's Fuzhou), and later renamed Fengzhou (today's Fuzhou, the 18th Edition of Jianou county annals of the Republic of China was mistakenly named Fuzhou, Jiangxi).
In the ninth year of kaihuang (589), the county was abandoned, belonging to Quanzhou (now Fuzhou).
In the third year of Daye (607), Jian'an county was restored. The county government was set up in Min county (now Fuzhou), leading Min County, Jian'an County, Nan'an county and Longxi County.
In the fourth year of Wude (621) of the Tang Dynasty, an County was rebuilt as Jianzhou, the Taishou as the governor, and transferred to Jian'an county. Under the jurisdiction of Jian'an, Jianyang, Suicheng, Jiangle, tangxing (now Pucheng) and Min County, six counties were established. In the seventh year of Wude (624), Shaowu belonged to Jianzhou and Lingxian county. In the eighth year of Wude (625), Jianyang was merged into Jianan and Lingxian counties. In the second year of Jingyun (711), it belonged to the governor's office of minzhou. In the first year of Tianbao (742), Jian'an county was rebuilt and belonged to Jian'an county. In the first year of Shangyuan Dynasty (760), Jianzhou belonged to Fuzhou. In the sixth year of Dali (771), Jianzhou was a regiment training and observation envoy of Fuzhou. In the fourth year of Zhonghe (884), Jianzhou was attacked by the Huangchao uprising, and Jianzhou ruled Jianyang. In the second year of Jingfu (893), Xu Guifan, the governor of Jianzhou, betrayed Wang Chao (the brother of Wang Shenzhi, the king of Fujian).
In the eighth year of Tianfu (943) of Jin Dynasty, Wang Yanzheng established the state with the name of "Yin" and changed it into Tiande. In the fourth year of Baoda in the Southern Tang Dynasty (946), Jianzhou was occupied and Yin died. Wang Yanzheng's family was moved to Jinling. Jianzhou was changed to Yong'an army, and soon to Zhongyi army. Jian'an county is under the jurisdiction of Zhongyi army.

From the Yuan Dynasty to the early years of the Yuan Dynasty (1264), Jianning Prefecture belonged to Hangzhou, the province of letters in the travel of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. In the 13th year of the Yuan Dynasty, the yuan army took Jianning. In the 15th year of the Zhiyuan Dynasty, it was changed to Jianning road. Jian'an county and Ouning County belong to Jianning road. They belong to the Provincial Library of Fuzhou, and set up the recording department. In the 17th year of the Zhiyuan Dynasty, it was changed into the office of the general manager of Jianning road. In the first year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1368), Jianning Prefecture was restored. Jian'an county and Ouning county are under the jurisdiction of Jianning Prefecture.
Since 1646, the Qing Dynasty has followed the Ming system.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), it was still called Jianning Prefecture, and later it was renamed Jianou Prefecture. In the second year of the Republic of China, Jianan county and Ouning county were merged and named Jianou County, which was under the jurisdiction of Jianan road and located in Nanping. In the 17th year of the Republic of China, Dao was abolished and only provincial and county levels were set up. Jian'ou was changed into a county government under the direct jurisdiction of the province. In the 35th year of the Republic of China, the province was divided into seven administrative supervision districts, and Jian'ou was the third administrative supervision district. The office of the Commissioner of administrative supervision is located in Jianyang.
On May 13, 1949, Jian'ou was liberated, and the first office of the administrative inspector general of Fujian Province was set up. It has jurisdiction over nine counties, namely Jian'ou, jian'yang, Chong'an, Pucheng, Shuiji, Songxi, Zhenghe, Shaowu and Guangze. The office of the administrative inspector general is located in Jian'ou.
In March 1950, it was changed into Jian'ou administrative Commissioner's office. In April of the same year, the office was relocated to Jianyang and renamed Jianyang administrative Commissioner's office. Jianou county belongs to the office of Jianyang administrative commissioner.
In 1956, Jianyang office was merged into Nanping office, and Jianou county was under the jurisdiction of Nanping office.
In 1970, Jianyang district administrative office was re established, and Jianou county was under the jurisdiction of Jianyang district administrative office.
In January 1989, Jianyang district administrative office was renamed Nanping district administrative office, which has jurisdiction over 10 counties and cities, including Nanping, Shunchang, Jianou, Jianyang, Chongan, Pucheng, Songxi, Zhenghe, Shaowu and Guangze.
On October 20, 1992, the Ministry of Civil Affairs approved the abolition of Jian'ou county and the establishment of Jian'ou city.

Jian'ou city belongs to the Southeast Coastal Hilly Area, with high terrain in the southeast and low terrain in the southwest. Surrounded by medium and low mountains at an altitude of more than 500 meters, the central and western regions are river valleys, plains, hills and beaded Intermountain valleys with Jianxi and Songxi as the main axis, forming a landform dominated by water erosion. The average altitude of the city is 453.55 meters, with Chenshan in the east being the highest (1822.2 meters) and Fangcun in Nanya town in the south being the lowest (68 meters). The mountainous area accounts for 57.34% of the city's land area, the hilly area 29.86%, and the valley plain and basin Valley 12.8%.
There are 91 peaks more than 1000 meters in the city, including 86 in the southeast and North. Chenshan (also known as Renshan): it is located in Shuiyuan Township in the east of the county, adjacent to Dongyou Town, and shaped like "gold". It is a municipal nature reserve with an altitude of 1822.2 meters.
