Hongya County, located in the southwest edge of Sichuan Basin, is under the jurisdiction of Meishan City. The geographical coordinates are 102 ° 49 '- 103 ° 32' e and 29 ° 24 '- 30 ° 00' n. It is located in the triangle of Chengdu, Leshan and Ya'an, adjacent to Jiajiang County and Emeishan City in the East, Hanyuan County and Jinkouhe District in the south, Yucheng District and Yingjing County in Ya'an in the west, Mingshan district and Danling County in the north, 147km away from Chengdu, 55km away from Leshan, 50km away from Meishan and 62km away from Ya'an. The highest altitude of the county is 3090 meters, and the lowest is 417.5 meters. It covers an area of 1896.49 square kilometers and has a total population of 350800 (2016). The county people's government is located in Hongchuan town.
Hongya County belongs to "national ecological demonstration area", "advanced collective of China ecological civilization Award", Sichuan "pilot county of ecological civilization demonstration project", and the first batch of "ecological counties" in Sichuan Province. It has formed four leading industries of machinery manufacturing, building materials, chemical industry and ecological food processing.
In November 2018, Hongya County was selected as the best leisure tourism destination of China National Tourism in 2018. In December 2018, it won the title of the second batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties. On January 25, 2019, it was selected as the national "safe agricultural machinery" Demonstration County in 2018. On January 22, 2020, it was named National Garden County by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development.

The origin of place names
The name of Hongya originated from hongyachuan (now known as Anxi River) in the northeast of the county. Hongyachuan, the upper section is called Hongchuan, and the lower section will flow into Yahe River, so it is called "hongyachuan".
History of Jianxian County
Qianwei county was set up in the Qin and Han Dynasties. Most of the northeast of Hongya is Nan'an County, which belongs to Qianwei County, and some of the southwest of Hongya is Yandao county.
In the Jin Dynasty and the northern and Southern Dynasties, Hongya belonged to Qile County, Yizhou, Qitong County, Qingzhou, Meizhou and Jiazhou.
Hongya County was established in the second year of Baoding (562) of the Northern Zhou Dynasty. It is located in Chengxiang town of Danling County, belonging to Jiazhou, and Hongya town is located in the west of the county.
In the 13th year of kaihuang (593), Hongya County was changed to Danling county (now Danling county). Hongya County was set up in Hongya town. It was in Hongya town (now Hongchuan town). It was the beginning of the founding of Hongya County. It has a history of 1425 years.
In 618, the first year of Wude in Tang Dynasty, Hongya County was removed and Qianzhou county was established (the government is still in today's Hongchuan town), and Nan'an county (the government is in Mucheng town of today's Jiajiang County) and Pingxiang county (the government is in today's caoyutan town). In the first year of Zhenguan (627), Qianzhou and its two counties were abolished and Hongya County was restored to Meizhou. In the seventh year of Kaiyuan (719), Hongya County was abolished and Yizhou was established. Nanan county and Pingxiang county were still in charge. In the eighth year of Kaiyuan (720), Yizhou was abolished and Hongya County was rebuilt with its two counties.
In the fourth year of Chunhua in the Northern Song Dynasty (993), Hongya County was changed to Jiazhou.
In 1283, Hongya County was merged into Jiajiang County, belonging to Jiading road.
In the 18th year of Chenghua in Ming Dynasty (1482), it was restored to Hongya County, still under the jurisdiction of the original district, belonging to Jiading Prefecture.
In the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Jiading Prefecture.
In 1912 (the first year of the Republic of China), the government, department and prefecture were abolished, and seven roads were set up in Sichuan. Hongya belonged to shangchuannan Road, and then Chang Road was built;
In 1919 (the eighth year of the Republic of China), the warlords in Sichuan occupied the defense areas respectively. Hongya was the third army of Sichuan Army (Chen Hongfan Division), the 24th army and the 21st army.
In 1935 (the 24th year of the Republic of China), the Sichuan government was unified, and Hongya belonged to the fourth Meishan administrative supervision area.
After the liberation of Hongya County, it belonged to Meishan special area in Western Sichuan and Leshan special area in 1953.
In 1958, Danling county was incorporated into Hongya.
In November 1962, it was still restored to Hongya and Danling counties, both of which belonged to Leshan special district, and later changed to Leshan City.
In August 1997, Hongya was assigned to Meishan area.
In 2000, Hongya County governed 12 towns and 14 townships.
On June 23, 2003, Wuzhuang township was abolished in Hongya County and its administrative area was incorporated into Wawushan town. The resident of the people's Government of Wawushan town was moved from Zhangba to Wuzhuang.
In 2004, Hongya County governed 12 towns and 13 townships.
On April 30, 2005, the people's Government of Sichuan Province approved Hongya County to abolish nine townships including Xinmiao, Fuchang, Jinfu, Lianhe, Liuxin, Tiangong, Zhaohe, Wuhe and Zhangcun and caoyutan Town, and expand the administrative areas of eight towns: merging the administrative areas of Xinmiao Township into Hongchuan town. Hongchuan town government is stationed in Hongchuan. The original Fuchang and Jinfu were merged into Yuping town. Yuping town government is stationed in Yuping. In 2005, Hongya County had jurisdiction over 11 towns including Hongchuan, Zhige, Sanbao, Yuping, caoyutan, Zhongbao, Dongyue, Huaxi, Liujiang, Gaomiao and Wawushan, and 4 townships including Zhongshan, Jiangjun, Hanwang and Taoyuan.
In June 2014, the residence of Hongya County government was moved from No. 1, Zhongzheng street, Hongchuan town to No. 299, Hongzhou Avenue, Hongchuan town.
On January 4, 2018, Meishan Municipal People's government officially issued the reply on approving Hongya County to adjust the administrative divisions of some towns and townships. It agreed Hongya County to cancel Taoyuan Township and establish Qiliping Town, and put Qili Village, Xianwan village and group 2 and 3 of huaxiyuan community in Gaomiao town under the jurisdiction of Qiliping town.
