Jintan District Jintan district belongs to Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province. On November 10, 1993, with the approval of the State Council, Jintan county was abolished and Jintan City (county level) was established, with the former county administrative region as the city administrative region. Jintan City is directly under the central government of Jiangsu Province. It is listed separately in the plan and is still under the jurisdiction of Changzhou City for the time being.
In April 2015, the State Council agreed to abolish county-level Jintan City and establish Jintan District of Changzhou City.

Jintan district is inclined from west to East, commonly known as "two mountains, two rivers and six fields". The highest peak, Maoshan damaofeng, is 372.5 meters above sea level. The eastern part is a low-lying plain, part of the Taihu Plain, covering an area of about 752 square kilometers.

The total area of the salt mine is 60.5 square kilometers, and the ore reserves are 16.3 billion tons. The ore body is of high grade, with an average sodium chloride content of 85%.
