It was approved by the State Council of the people's Republic of China in May 2005 to be dissolved and incorporated into Yuexiu District. It is one of the famous old districts in Guangzhou. It used to be said that "there is money and power to live in Dongshan". Dongshan District was officially delisted at 12:00 noon on September 28, 2005. A large number of people came to take a group photo in front of the residence of Dongshan District at 8 Shuqian road. Many people said that the old Dongshan culture and feelings had become the city mark of Guangzhou, and they felt sorry and reluctant for the merger of Dongshan District.
Historical evolution
The name of Dongshan originated from Dongshan temple in Ming Dynasty. Because people in Guangzhou used to call Gangdi "Shan", so "Shan" and "Gang" are confused. In the 21st year of Chenghua (1485) of the Ming Dynasty, when Wei Jun, the internal supervisor, was guarding Guangdong, he was deeply criticized by his conscience for his corruption and perversion of the law, so he built a Temple eight miles east of the city, which was known as the eunuch temple. At the beginning of its construction, the northern emperor was invited from Foshan ancestral temple to worship in the front hall, and then the temple was divided into the front temple and the back temple. Later, Emperor Zhu Jianshen of Chenghua granted amnesty to the whole world and named it "Yongtai Temple". In 1535, the 14th year of Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty, Zhenwu God was also worshipped in the front hall. In 1650, when ban Zhifu, the commander in chief of the Qing Dynasty, rebuilt the temple, the front hall was divided into Zhenwu temple, and the "Temple" and "Temple" were separated. This Zhenwu temple is commonly known as Dongshan temple.
There are three natural villages in Dongshan. A Shanhe village, now near xinhepu, had Yao, Gao and Fu surnames. With the development of the urban area, they moved to Nonglinxia road. There is a village named siyouxiang. At the bottom of the back of the temple, there are nearly 700 former villagers with the surname Yao, who live in the east of the village, and nearly 300 people with the surname Liang, who live in the west of the village. There are less than 100 people living in zhushiliao, now near Zhongshan Medical Clinic on Zhongshan 2nd road. Most of them grow vegetables and vegetables, dry pig excrement, fish scales and other fertilizer in Yunxiao rural area.
The former Dongshan District is located in the east of Guangzhou City, starting from Guangzhou Avenue (connecting Tianhe District) in the East, Yuexiu District in the center of Guangzhou in the west, and bounded by Guangzhou Kowloon Railway in the north. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Dongshan District was taken over by the people's government. It experienced three times of division and change of district name. In 1951, it was changed to Dadong District, the next year it was changed to Dongshan District, and in 1960 it was changed to Dongshan District. It has always been famous for its high-quality education, and has successfully declared as a national "strong education area". In addition, there are some beautiful cultural landscapes and historical footprints. For example, Dongshan old building complex, Dongshan Lake Park, the site of the third National Congress of the Communist Party of China, etc. The well-known "master Dongshan" in Guangzhou comes from here. In May 2005, Guangzhou adjusted its administrative division, abolished Dongshan District and Fangcun District, and merged Dongshan District into Yuexiu District. The Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Standing Committee of the provincial people's Congress are now stationed in this district.

The name "Dongshan District" has disappeared with the adjustment of administrative divisions in 2005, but in any case, the popular proverb "Miss Xiguan, master Dongshan" can accurately annotate the culture of power and nobility in Guangzhou. In Guangzhou, there is a saying that "the rich live in Xiguan and the right live in Dongshan". The villas in Dongshan District are known as "Dongshan garden houses". They are mainly located on Jinguyuan road and xinhepu road. They were built in 1920s and 1930s. In the area of xinhepu and Guigang, there are more than 600 high and low compound villas, which is the largest existing low rise courtyard style traditional residential group of Chinese and western in Guangzhou.
Ask about history
Yandun road is the entrance of laodongshan. From the road to the East Mountain department store. With a total length of 100-200 meters, the surrounding siyoulu road and xinhepu area are also witness of the overseas Chinese's development of laodongshan. Its small villas with western style buildings have always been the historical wealth praised by the local people.
From the wilderness to the cultivation place of "Dongshan young master"
Yandun road is named after yandungang in xiaoshantou. According to Literature and history and other relevant records, before the 20th century, Dongshan in Guangzhou city was still a 1.5 km wasteland outside Dadongmen. Yandungang is one of the rolling hills. Surrounded by some fields, vegetable fields and small fish ponds, the hills are sparsely populated, belonging to Siyou Township and Shanhe township. Although it was close to the provincial river, it was still barren until the end of the Qing Dynasty and was not used by the government.
In 1901, the Treaty of sinchou was signed. The authorities allowed foreigners to set up business in China. The Foreign Ministry of American Baptist Church cooperated with local Christians to set up schools, hospitals and missionary activities in Dongshan.
In 1907, guangjiu railway was built. More than ten residences were built in the north of Dongshan temple for the use of foreign architectural engineers, and golf courses were opened nearby to meet the needs of residents. This house is today's "East Garden". There is also a "wave tower" in the east garden. The nearby one is called bodi.
The upsurge of overseas Chinese building
After the first World War, many overseas Chinese returned to visit their relatives and had some money on hand, which set off the second wave of overseas Chinese housing development in Dongshan. At that time, Guangzhou established municipal offices, demolished city walls and built roads, and the real estate industry was particularly prosperous. Dongshan once again attracts the attention of overseas Chinese with its beautiful environment and cheap land price. As a result, a number of roads were opened up and formed, Yandun road is one of them, and a combination of Chinese and western buildings were also built nearby. Among them, the Caiyuan, built by Mei, an American overseas Chinese, on Yandun Road, covers an area of 2897 square meters. It has three buildings with gardens in front and behind. It is said that it was the largest garden style house in Dongshan at that time.
It was once known as liuyunji
At the end of 1920s and the beginning of 1930s, the economic crisis broke out all over the world, many overseas Chinese brought their funds back home, and Dongshan real estate industry near Yandun road became a hot spot again. In addition, a group of aviation veterans who followed Sun Yat Sen to save the country by aviation also built houses in this area. But before and after the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was different from living in private places, and it also became one of the military areas. After the reform and opening up, through the development of real estate all the way, many foreigners have moved in, breaking the old situation of overseas Chinese living outside. Yandun road is becoming more and more popular. The descendants of overseas Chinese owners have come back from overseas to visit their ancestors' old houses. The overseas Chinese houses here have also become a link between Guangzhou and overseas Chinese. The small western style houses along Yandun road are well-known at home and abroad, and drive the leisure industry here, making it a leisure place for people to look for the foreign flavor of old Guangzhou.
Dongshan Villa
Dongshan District of Guangzhou was a suburb of Guangzhou until the Qing Dynasty. In 1941, the survey of Guangzhou recorded: "Dongshan was originally a village in the suburbs. After entering the WTO through guangjiu railway, some European and American expatriates lived near the railway. Since the Republic of China, more and more people have built western style houses, so it has become a prosperous area. " It is reported that since the guangjiu railway was opened to traffic in 1911, foreigners and local rich businessmen chose land to build houses in Dongshan, which made "the land price and the houses prosperous day by day". During the period of the Republic of China, the military, government and bureaucrats also because of its convenient transportation and quiet environment
