Historical evolution
The origin of place names
The name of Xiangfen county began in 1954. It was formed by the combination of the former Xiangling county and Fencheng county. It was named Xiangfen county because it took the first word of the two county names.
History of construction
Xiangling County
Xiangling county was originally the Fengyi of Yuandang, a senior official of the state of Jin in the spring and Autumn period. In the seventh year of Xianggong (621 BC), Xianggong was buried here after his death, so it is called Xiangling.
The name of "Xiangling" began to appear in the Warring States period. In the book of historical records, the Wei family: "in the 35th year of the reign of marquis Wen, the Qi Dynasty conquered Xiangling."
Xiangling county was established in the Western Han Dynasty, which belongs to Hedong county. At that time, it was located in zhaoqu on the East Bank of Fenhe River.
In Xinmang, it was renamed Ganchang county.
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, it was renamed Xiangling.
In 428, the first year of shenlu in the Northern Wei Dynasty, tuobatao, Emperor Taiwu, captured helianchang, king of the Xia and Qin Dynasties, and set up Qinchang County in today's Yaodu District.
In 556, Xiangling county was merged into Qinchang county.
In the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Qinchang county was moved to Xiangling city.
In 606, it was renamed Xiangling county.
In 819, it was transferred to sushuidian on the West Bank of Fenshui, namely Xiangling village.
In the first year of Tiansheng of Song Dynasty (1023), it was transferred to Jinqiao, which is now Xiangling town.
In 1954, Xiangling county and Fencheng County merged into Xiangfen county.
Fencheng County
The original Fencheng county was originally the state of Jia Bo in the Western Zhou Dynasty. It is said that King Kang of Zhou granted Gong Ming, the youngest son of Tang Shuyu, to Jia and became Jia Bo. In 703 BC, in the civil war between Quwo and the opposite Jin State, Jia Bo also joined the five countries' Alliance organized by Guo Zhong, a scholar of Zhou Shiqing, to fight against Wu Gong of Quwo. This is the record of "Guo Zhong, Rui Bo, Liang Bo, Xun Hou and Jia Bo fighting Quwo" in Zuo Zhuan However, more than 20 years later, Duke Wu of Quwo destroyed the imperial family of Jin and became the king of Jin. It was during this period that the kingdom of Jia Bo was destroyed by Duke Wu. In 666 BC, Jin Xiangong married Jia, that is to say, he married Jia Jun, the daughter of Jia Bo, as his wife. This shows that Jia was not a state with Ji surname, but a state with a different surname. During the reign of Xianggong of Jin Dynasty, Hu shegu was granted to Jia. Hu shegu was also called Jia Ji in historical books. The so-called "Fen city", also known as Linfen City, is a city of Wei state during the Warring States period. Its former site is Jincheng village, which is at the junction of the southern end of Xiangfen county and Xinjiang county.
Linfen county was set up in the Western Han Dynasty, which includes the present Xinjiang county and the south of Xiangfen county.
In 446, Taiping County was set up in the north of Linfen County, which is the ancient town of Xiangfen county.
In order to avoid the name taboo of Zhou Wendi yuwentai, the Northern Zhou Dynasty was changed to Taiping County.
In the seventh year of Zhenguan (633), Taiping County moved to jingdebao, which is now Fencheng town.
In January of 1914, when Shanxi Province adjusted its geographical names, in view of the fact that there were three Taiping counties in China at that time, Anhui province had Taiping County in the Tang Dynasty, and Jiangsu Province had Taiping County in 1912, it was decided to use the ancient name "Fencheng" in Taiping County and change it to Fencheng county.

In 1954, Xiangling county was merged with Fencheng county and named Xiangfen county. On October 14 of the same year, the county people's government moved to Shicun, now Xiangfen county.
