Luxi County Luxi County, subordinate to Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan Province, is located in the southeast of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, with a total area of 1565 square kilometers. Luxi County governs 7 towns and 4 townships, and another township level unit. The county government is located in Wuxi town. Luxi County has a subtropical monsoon humid climate. By the end of 2019, the county has a permanent population of 292100 and a total ethnic minority population of 191100. It is an ethnic minority county dominated by Tujia and Miao.
In 619, Luxi County was founded. In 1957, it belonged to the Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Western Hunan. Jiaozhou Liuzhou railway, national highway 319 and Hangzhou Ruizhou Expressway pass through the county. On December 26, 2017, it was rated as the fifth batch of national demonstration areas (units) for national unity and progress by the National People's commission. On March 6, 2019, the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of finance, the Ministry of culture and tourism, and the State Administration of cultural relics issued the notice of the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of finance, the Ministry of culture and tourism, and the State Administration of cultural relics on publishing the list of counties for the protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics (the first batch). On February 29, 2020, the people's Government of Hunan Province agreed to withdraw Luxi County from poverty-stricken counties. There are some scenic spots in the county, such as Pushi ancient town, nengtan suspension bridge, etc.
In 2019, Luxi County's GDP will reach 6.948 billion yuan, an increase of 8.4%. Among them, the added value of the primary industry was 978 million yuan, an increase of 2.9%; the added value of the secondary industry was 2.402 billion yuan, an increase of 9.7%; the added value of the tertiary industry was 3.568 billion yuan, an increase of 9.0%. The added value of primary industry, secondary industry and tertiary industry accounted for 14.1%, 34.6% and 51.3% of GDP respectively. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of areas with remarkable achievements in real work in 2020 announced by Hunan Provincial People's government.
Historical evolution
Luxi County was Jingzhou in ancient times. It belonged to Chu in spring and autumn and Warring States, and Qianzhong County in Qin Dynasty.
From the fifth year of emperor Gaozu of Han Dynasty (202 BC) to the Southern Dynasty of Qi Dynasty, it belonged to Yuanling County of Wuling county.
In 511, the tenth year of xiaoyantianjian, Emperor Liangwu of the Southern Dynasty, Yuanling was divided into Luzhou and Nanyang County. In 575, Emperor Chen Xuan of the Southern Dynasty abolished Luzhou and built Yuanling County. Luxi belonged to Yuanling County.
In 619, Luxi County was founded. In the first year of Tianbao (742), Chenzhou was changed into Luxi County, and Luxi County was moved to Xixikou.
In the ninth year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1139), it was relocated to nanmuzhou, the confluence of yuan and Wu rivers.
In 1649, Luxi County was changed into Luxi County, which is still in use today.
In 1914, the Hunan provincial government ordered that 63 villages in shangwudu should be under the jurisdiction of Qiancheng County, and the villages on the West Bank of Yuanshui River from Baisha to maziqiao should be under the jurisdiction of Luxi County. In the Qing Dynasty, Luxi County belonged to Chenzhou Prefecture, Yongjing Road, Chenyuan County, Hunan Province, and in the early Republic of China, it belonged to Chenyuan Road, Hunan Province. In 1940, it was the ninth administrative supervision district of Hunan Province.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Luxi County belongs to Yuanling District of Xiangxi administrative office.
In 1952, Luxi County belonged to Xiangxi Miao Autonomous Region.
In 1955, Luxi County belonged to Xiangxi Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
In 1957, Luxi County belonged to the Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Western Hunan.

Luxi County, located in the southeast of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, is the "South Gate" of Xiangxi Autonomous Prefecture. Its geographical coordinates are 27 ° 54 ′ ~ 28 ° 28 ′ N and 109 ° 40 ′ ~ 110 ° 14 ′ E. It is adjacent to Yuanling County in the East, Chenxi County and Mayang County in the south, Jishou City and Fenghuang County in the west, and Guzhang County in the north. Luxi County is located in the transition zone from Wuling mountain range to Xuefeng mountain range. There are more than 2700 mountain tops. It is a mountainous county with "eight mountains, half water, one field, half roads and manors". The landform is arranged in the shape of "Chuan" from east to southwest, high in the West and low in the East, and inclined from west to East. The area from Pushi town to Baisha Town is karst landform, with low mountainous area in the west, low mountainous area in the middle and low mountainous area uplifted by Yanshan movement, and alluvial zone of Yuanjiang River Basin in the East. The 658 mountain peaks above 500 meters above sea level in the county form three directions: the west road is composed of 137 mountain peaks, such as Jiangjun mountain, Xianren rock, Feiyan and Badou mountain, extending 20 kilometers from north to south, forming the Western barrier. The middle road consists of 487 peaks, such as Dangjia mountain, Tianqiao mountain, Ma'anshan mountain, yemaoao mountain and Goutou mountain, extending 40 kilometers from north to south, forming the backbone of the middle road. The East Road consists of 34 peaks, such as Daichao mountain, Fenghuang Mountain and yanniu mountain, which arc 17 kilometers from north to south, forming the eastern barrier. Generally, the altitude is 300-500 meters. The highest point is the main peak of Badou mountain in Xinglongchang Town, with an altitude of 884.3 meters. The lowest point is the outlet of Dalong River in Wuxi Town, with an altitude of 97.1 meters. There are five types: mountain, hill, hillock, plain and water area. Among them, mountain area accounts for 66.04%, Hill 25.3%, hillock 2.31%, plain 3.43% and water area 2.92%.

There are 127 big and small rivers in Luxi County, which belong to the Yuan river system. It is divided into four water systems: Southeast Yuanshui main stream, central Wushui, southern chenshui and Northern Youshui. There are 23 streams in the main stream system of Yuan River, with a drainage area of 455.6 square kilometers. There are 76 rivers in Wushui river system, with a drainage area of 720.6 square kilometers. Chenshui river system has 16 streams, with a drainage area of 249.5 square kilometers. Youshui water system has 12 rivers, with a drainage area of 139.8 square kilometers.

The total area of Luxi County is 1565.5 square kilometers, with 20540.68 hectares of cultivated land, including 18633.14 hectares of paddy field and 1907.54 hectares of dry land. There are 12066.87 hectares of garden land, 108992.85 hectares of forest land, 2097.09 hectares of grassland, 3973.77 hectares of town, village, industrial and mining land, 989.98 hectares of transportation land, and 4635.95 hectares of water area and water conservancy facilities land.
Biological resources
There are 1082 species of seed plants in Luxi County, including 489 species of economic plants, 188 species of medicinal plants, 12 species of starch plants, 26 species of aquatic phytoplankton and 85 species of economic plants. Animal resources include Pushi Tiegu pig, Xiangxi yellow cattle, Chengdu Mayang and Boer goat. There are 85 species of economic fish, which belong to 6 orders, 13 families and 57 genera. Among them, 34 species are the main economic fish, such as grass, silver carp, green carp, bighead carp and carp. The state's key protected animals are salamander, pangolin, Swertia, otter and clouded leopard, which have high economic value.

There are 45 kinds of 75 mineral spots in Luxi County, which can be divided into dominant mineral resources, potential dominant mineral resources and general mineral resources. The dominant mineral resources are phosphorus, dolomite, stone coal, limestone, etc. Phosphate rock is mainly distributed in Pushi town and Xixi town. The proven reserves of Pushi phosphate rock are 39.37 million tons, that of Xixi phosphate rock is 40.66 million tons, and that of micong phosphate rock is 7 million tons. Bauxite is distributed in lijiatian area of Pushi Town, with proven reserves of 5.213 million tons and prospective reserves of 10.6 million tons, including 1.356 million tons of grade B, 2.611 million tons of grade C and 1.606 million tons of grade D. The deposit is the only medium-sized lower bauxite deposit in Hunan Province and has not been exploited yet. Dolomite ore is mainly distributed in Xixi, Jiefangyan, Xinglongchang, yongxingchang, Pushi and other towns, with reserves of more than 100 million tons. Except for Wuxi, Tanxi, shiliuping, liangjiatan and bashiping, limestone is distributed in other towns. The exposed area of limestone in the county is 127.15 square kilometers, with reserves of 16 million tons. Stone coal is mainly distributed in Wuxi, Xixi, Pushi, Xiaozhang, Dalan, Xinglongchang, yongxingchang, Jiefangyan, Heshui and other towns, with reserves of more than 3 billion tons. The potential advantage mineral resources include placer gold and diamond deposits in Yuanshui of Pushi Town, Baisha Town and Wuxi Town, with reserves of 5.97 tons.
