Hualong Hui Autonomous County Hualong Hui Autonomous County is located in the transition zone between the Loess Plateau and the Qinghai Tibet Plateau in the east of Qinghai Province, and in the south of Haidong city. It is a multi-ethnic county mainly inhabited by Hui nationality, with 12 nationalities including Hui, Han, Tibetan and salar.
The county people's government is located in Bayan Town, 75 kilometers away from the provincial government. Linping highway, Lehua highway, Asai highway, Zaha highway, Ping'a highway and Yanguan highway run through the county.
Hualong Hui Autonomous County, with a total area of 2740 square kilometers, has jurisdiction over 3 towns and 18 townships, with a total population of 229669 by 2010.
Located in the mountains and valleys to the north of the Yellow River Valley, the terrain inclines from northwest to Southeast. The Yellow River flows through the southwest and south of the county, belonging to the eastern arid area of the Qinghai Tibet Plateau, with an average annual temperature of 2.2 ℃ and annual precipitation of 470mm.
In April 2020, Hualong county will withdraw from the sequence of poverty-stricken counties.
Historical evolution
In the pre Qin period, Hualong county was a pastoral area for Qiang people.
In the second year of shenjue (60 BC), Jincheng county was set up in the Western Han Dynasty to govern Yunwu (now xiachuankou, Minhe County, Qinghai Province), and Hualong county is under the jurisdiction of Jincheng county. In the 14th year of Yongyuan (A.D. 102), Hou Ba, the commander of the Han school of protecting the Qiang people, stationed five troops in dongxihan (today's Hualong gandu).
In the first year of Xiankang (335 AD), Zhang Jun, the former king of Liang, set up Huanghe county and built Huanghe city (the ancient city of Rilan in qunke town). In the first year of the Taiyuan Dynasty (376 A.D.), the former Liang died, and the land of Huanghe County belonged to the clan regime of the former Qin Dynasty.
In the 10th year of the Taiyuan Dynasty (385 AD), Lu Guang built Houliang kingdom in guzang (now Wuwei City, Gansu Province), and Huanghe county was attached to Houliang.
In the second year of Long'an (398 A.D.), Xianbei bald and Wugu in Hexi occupied the eastern part of Qinghai Province and built the kingdom of Nanliang. They still followed the old system and set up Huanghe county to govern the Yellow River City. They also set up Hanchuan garrison in today's Gansu.
In the ninth year of Yixi reign (413 A.D.), Beiliang of Mengxun, Juqu, occupied Hualong and other places, and divided the former Huanghe County into Huanghe county and Huangchuan County. In the 11th year of the reign of Yixi (415 A.D.), the Western Qin army of Qifu family in Xianbei captured Huanghe and Huangchuan counties in Beiliang, and still set up Huanghe County, which is now Hualong.
In the southern and Northern Dynasties, in the sixth year of Yuanjia (429), Beiliang captured Huanghe county again, and still set up Huanghe County along the old system.
In 445, the northern Liang Kingdom died. The Northern Wei Dynasty occupied Huanghe county and its west area, set Taohe County, and changed the Hanchuan garrison to hanchuanrong, which belonged to Shanshan town (now Xining City). In 502, Emperor Xuanwu of the Northern Wei Dynasty set up Shicheng County (the ancient city of qunke). In the second year of Xiaochang (526), Emperor Xiaoming of the Northern Wei Dynasty garrisoned Guangwei County in Hanchuan. Shanshan town was abolished in, Taohe county was under the jurisdiction of Shanzhou (today's Ledu), and Shicheng and Guangwei counties were under the jurisdiction of Taohe county.
In 553, Shicheng County was changed to Hualong county because of Hualong valley. This is the beginning of the name of Hualong county.
In 607, kuozhou to the south of the Yellow River was abandoned and changed into Guanhe county (governing Heyin town of Guide county). Hualong county was under the jurisdiction of Guanhe County, and later was transferred to Xiping County.
In 618, Li Shimin recovered Hehuang area. In the second year of Wude (619), Guanhe county was changed into kuozhou, which governs today's qunke ancient city. Gaozong Yonghui six years (655 years), the Tang Dynasty to the south of the Yellow River michuan County in today's Hualong gandu, Li kuozhou. In 712, Hualong county was changed to Huacheng county to avoid Li Longji's taboo. Tianbao first year (742), and changed to Guangwei county. In 754, kuozhou was changed into ningsaijun. In the first year of emperor Qianyuan of suzong (758), it was changed to kuozhou, which governs Hualong county. In 760, Tubo attacked kuozhou. In the first year of Guangde (763), Emperor Daizong conquered Guangwei and michuan, and Hualong county was under the jurisdiction of the governor of Shanzhou, Tubo. In 851, Zhang Yichao, a native of Shazhou, revolted and overthrew the local regime of Tubo. Kuozhou was returned to Tang Dynasty. At the end of Tang Dynasty, Hualong area was under the rule of Tubo local forces.
After the first year of Jingde (1004) of Zhenzong in the Northern Song Dynasty, Hualong was controlled by the kusiluo regime for nearly a hundred years. In 1099, after the Northern Song Dynasty occupied Hehuang area, kuozhou was changed into ningsai City, belonging to Shanzhou. In 1101, the Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song dynasty founded the first year of the Jingguo period, the song army withdrew from the eastern part of Qinghai Province, and jiaoluosiluo of Shanzhou protected himself. In the third year of Chongning (1104), the song army entered Qinghai again and changed ningsaicheng into kuozhou.
In the first year of Shaoxing, Emperor Gaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty (1131), Jin general Ben Chu (ANG) led his troops to occupy kuozhou. Shaoxing seven years (1137), Xixia occupied today's Hualong and other places, still along the old system home kuozhou. After 1227, Mongolian soldiers entered Qinghai. Now Hualong and other places are under the jurisdiction of Xining Prefecture.
In the sixth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1373), Xining Wei was set up (governing the present Xining City), and the present Hualong area belongs to Xining Wei.
In 1725, Xining Prefecture was changed into Xining Prefecture, and Hualong Prefecture was under the jurisdiction of Xining Prefecture and Nianbo county. Qianlong nine years (1744), set Bayan Rongge Fufan Hall (now Bayan town), Li Xining house.
In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Bayan Rongge hall was changed into Bayan County, which was under the jurisdiction of Xining Road, Gansu Province. In 1929, Qinghai Province was established and Bayan County was changed to Bayan County. In 1931, Bayan County was changed to Hualong county.
Hualong Hui Autonomous Region was established in 1953, renamed as Autonomous County in 1955, and transferred to Haidong area in 1978.
In April 2020, Hualong county will withdraw from the sequence of poverty-stricken counties.

On September 4, 1949, Hualong county was liberated and the people's Government of Hualong county was formally established. The county is divided into four districts, with jurisdiction over one city, 25 townships, 48 administrative villages and 217 natural villages. The first district governs Bayan City, Jiahe Township, Lagan Township, Jinjiazhuang Township, xiejiatan Township, chazhu Township, keyangou Township and tabaer township; the second district governs yaluhu Township, Lamu Township, dehenglun Township and ashnu township; the third district governs DOPA Township, qunke Township, Sheren Township, Meijia Township, Ping'an Township, Muyun Township, angsiduo Township, Dejia Township, Ertang Township and ruolinga township; the Fourth District governs Zaba Township and laqu township Heichengcheng Township, Chafu Township, Zhizha Township, xiazhaba Township and BaCuO township.
By the end of 1996, the county had jurisdiction over three towns of Bayan, qunke and gandu, and 13 townships of yashiga, Zaba, Heicheng, angsiduo, Dejia, Ertang, Jiahe, xiejiatan, dehenglong, shalianbao, ashnu, shidacang and Chuma, and five Tibetan townships of Zhizha, Xiongxian, Chapu, Jinyuan and taga, with a total of 368 administrative villages. The county people's government is located in Bayan town.
In 2000, Hualong Hui Autonomous County had jurisdiction over 3 towns, 13 townships and 5 ethnic townships. The villages and towns include: Bayan Town, qunke Town, gandu Town, yashiga Township, Zhizha Tibetan Township, Xiongxian Tibetan Township, Chafu Tibetan Township, Zaba Township, heichengcheng Township, angsiduo Township, Dejia Township, Ertang Township, Jiahe Township, xiejiatan Township, dehenglong Township, shalianbao Township, ashnu Township, shidacang Township, Chuma Township, Jinyuan Tibetan Township and taga Tibetan township.
On March 19, 2001, the people's Government of Qinghai province gave an official reply: cancel angsiduo Township in Hualong Hui Autonomous County and set up angsiduo town; cancel 2 townships of Zaba and Heicheng, among which 12 villages (sihaning, yishadong, laquyi, laquer, xiangyima, zarang, konglonggou, luohuzang, dalaqu, Akala, Yaodong, larangtan) of Heicheng and Zaba Township were merged to set up Zaba town; cancel Yashiga township was merged with six villages (shangtan, Chengche, zonggatan, lagongmo, shalagou, wangantan) in Heicheng town to establish yashiga town; Jiahe township was abolished and merged into Bayan town.
On March 19, 2001, Qinghai provincial government issued the reply of Qingzheng Letter No. 20: cancel angsiduo Township in Hualong Hui Autonomous County and establish angsiduo town; cancel Zaba and Heicheng townships, among which 12 villages (sihaning, yishadong, laqu 1, laqu 2, xiangyima, zarang, konglonggou, luohuzang, dalaqu, Akala, Yaodong, larang tan) and Zaba Township in Heicheng town are merged to establish Zaba township Bashigan township was abolished, and yashiga township was merged with six villages (shangtan, Chengche, zonggatan, lagongmo, shalagou, wangantan) in Heicheng town to establish yashiga town; Jiahe township was abolished and merged into Bayan town. By the end of 2001, Hualong Hui Autonomous County had jurisdiction over 6 towns, 13 townships (including 5 ethnic townships), 1 neighborhood committee and 368 administrative villages.
In 2005, Hualong Hui Autonomous County has jurisdiction over 6 towns and 13 townships (including 5 ethnic townships): Bayan Town, qunke Town, yashiga Town, gandu Town, Zaba Town, angsiduo Town, Zhizha Tibetan Township, Xiongxian Tibetan Township, Chafu Tibetan Township, Dejia Township, Ertang Township, xiejiatan Township, dehenglong Township, shalianbao Township, ashnu Township, shidacang Township, Chumo Township, Jinyuan Tibetan Township and taga township Tibetan Township, Lijiaxia Administrative Committee and Gongboxia administrative committee.
In August 2006, Dejia township was abolished and merged into angsiduo town; Zhizha Tibetan township was abolished and merged into Xiongxian Tibetan township. After the adjustment, the county governs 6 towns and 11 townships (including 4 ethnic townships): Bayan Town, qunke Town, yashiga Town, gandu Town, Zaba Town, angsiduo Town, Xiongxian Tibetan Township, Chuma Township, Chapu Tibetan Township, tajia Tibetan Township, Jinyuan Tibetan Township, Ertang Township, xiejiatan Township, dehenglong Township, shalianbao Township, ashnu Township, shidacang township; and 2 management committees: Lijiaxia township Management Committee, Gongboxia Management Committee.
