Boshan, also known as suanzhong, belongs to the state of Qi. According to Boshan county annals, "at the weekend, Yan Wenjiang, a filial wife, died at the foot of the Great Wall ridge in the southwest suburb of Qi, so later generations called her Yan Shen.".
Qin Dynasty (221-207 BC)
Yan Shen belongs to Ying County of Jibei county.

Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)

The Republic of China (1912-1949)
In the early years of the Republic of China, the government system was abolished and changed to Jinan road. The latter system was abolished and put under the jurisdiction of Shandong provincial government.
In 1939, after the Anti Japanese democratic government of Boshan county was established, it was under the joint defense jurisdiction of Taian, Laiwu, Zhangqiu, Licheng, Zichuan, Boshan and Xintai counties.
In 1940, it belonged to Taishan special area.
In 1942, Boshan county and laidong County worked together, called Bolai joint office, and soon changed to Bolai county. The ownership has not changed.
In 1944, Boshan county was restored under the leadership of Lushan administrative office.
From December 1937 to August 1945, Boshan county government, the puppet regime, was stationed in Boshan city. The city and nearby villages were controlled by the puppet regime.
On August 23, 1945, the whole territory of Boshan was liberated for the first time. In September, Boshan county was divided into Boshan county and Boshan city. Boshan county government moved to Guozhuang, and Boshan city government moved to Boshan city under the leadership of Zibo Special Administrative Region.

In October 1949, Bocheng, Heishan and Yuanshan were abolished and changed into Boshan City, which was under the jurisdiction of Zibo special industrial and mining zone.
In May 1950, Boshan city was incorporated into Boshan County, and the county government moved from Yuanyuan to Bocheng under the leadership of Zibo special office.
In May 1951, the city and county were separated, and Zibo City was established. It was stationed in Boshan City, and the county government moved to Yuanyuan.
In March 1955, Zibo industrial and mining special zone was abolished and Zibo City was established. The original Zibo City was changed into Boshan District and Heishan district under the leadership of Zibo City. In 1910, the county was divided into 7 districts, namely 7 townships, 42 communities and 217 villages.
At the beginning of the Republic of China, the administrative division of Boshan remained unchanged. In 1932, it was changed into a township. In 1935, by provincial decree, the original towns were merged into 22 towns and 22 townships.

In March 1958, Zibo Municipal government decided to divide six townships and 51 villages into Boshan District.
In October 1958, the government of Shandong Province decided to sell Boshan County; to put the seven people's communes of the former Boshan County, i.e. koufou, Taihe, Bianhe, Tianzhuang, Ezhuang, liaowu and Nanqiu, into Zichuan District; and to put the four people's communes of nanboshan, Guozhuang, Yuanyuan and chishang into Boshan District.
In the winter of 1961, 16 brigades of Kunlun commune in Zichuan District were assigned to Boshan District, Haiyan commune; 17 brigades of cicun commune in Zichuan District were assigned to Boshan District, Jiaozhuang commune; 25 brigades of Yulin commune in Zichuan District were assigned to Boshan District, Longmen commune.
In 1961, there were 13 people's communes, 260 production brigades and 36 residential communities.
