Historical evolution
Hengshan area was under the jurisdiction of Mishan Prefecture in the late Qing Dynasty.
At the beginning of 1916, Yuan Dazhang, a businessman from Fengtian, raised 13 shareholders to raise funds to establish the Mishan coal mine in Beishan of huangnihezi, which was under the jurisdiction of Mishan county.
In 1931, the Japanese invaders forced human shares to run Yubian coal mine, which was renamed Jixi coal mine, and Hengshan street was set up here.
In 1941, it was under the jurisdiction of Jining county.
Hengshan District was set up after the victory of the "93" Anti Japanese war in 1945.
In July 1950, it was changed into the Fourth District of Jixi County.
In May 1956, Hengshan Town was set up instead of township.
