Yanji Yanji City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture of Jilin Province, is also the capital of the Autonomous Prefecture. Historical evolution
Yanji has a long history. According to the unearthed cultural relics of the Neolithic age and the records in the book of Han two thousand years ago, as early as the Neolithic age, there were human beings living on this land.
Before the Tang Dynasty, Yanji was under the jurisdiction of Bohai State and Koguryo Dynasty.

On September 3, 1952, Yanbian Korean Autonomous Region (renamed Autonomous Prefecture in 1955) was established. Yanji is the seat of the people's Government of the autonomous region (later the people's Committee of the autonomous prefecture).
In May 1953, Yanji city was set up as a county-level Yanji city.
Yanji county was abolished in 1955.
In April 1956, Yanji Municipal People's government changed its name to Yanji Municipal People's Committee.
