Historical evolution

In terms of geotectonics, Taonan city is bounded by Wafang to shihuiyao line, and the East and West belong to two tectonic units. The eastern part belongs to Songliao subsidence area, and the western part belongs to Daxinganling Inner Mongolia fold belt. Most of Taonan city is located in the western edge of Songliao subsidence area and the southwest corner of Songnen basin. Songnen basin is a Meso Cenozoic sedimentary basin. The basement of the basin is composed of pre Jurassic metamorphic rocks. In Cretaceous, it received deep lacustrine sediments. In tertiary, rivers, swamps and lakes continued to form in the west of the basin, mainly including shale, sandstone and glutenite, belonging to Taikang formation.
The Quaternary System in Taonan city covers the upper part of Taikang formation, and the lower Pleistocene Baitushan formation is tens of meters thick, which is gray kaolin gravel and sand. The Middle Pleistocene Daqinggou formation is buried 10-20 meters below the surface and is composed of grayish green, grayish white silty sand, fine sand and grayish clay lens. The upper Pleistocene guxiangtun formation is yellow silt fine sand, overlying with loess or loess like soil, 10-20m thick, forming a vast alluvial plain and Taoerhe and Jiaoliuhe alluvial fans. The Holocene consists of white silt fine sand on the sand dunes of alluvial plain with a thickness of 5-15m, and the alluvium along the river bed and on the floodplain, mainly composed of fine sand, silt and peat with a thickness of 5-10m.
