Historical evolution
Today's Liaoyang county begins with Yan in the Warring States period, goes through Qin and Han Dynasties, and ends with Hou Yan in the Sixteen States of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. All of them belong to Xiangping County in Liaodong county (now Liaoyang City).
After Beiyan, through the northern and Southern Dynasties until the Sui Dynasty, this area was a separate regime established by Koguryo.
After recovering Liaodong, Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty set up the governor's office of Liaocheng Prefecture in today's Liaoyang City.
In the 13th year of Tianxian, Emperor Taizong of Liao Dynasty (actually the first year of Huitong, i.e. 938), "Nanjing was changed to Tokyo, and the government was called Liaoyang.". Liaoyang in the Liao Dynasty was named after Liaoyang in Tang poetry.
