Zhangshu City, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangxi Province and managed by Yichun City, is located in the central part of Jiangxi Province, on the southern edge of Poyang Lake Plain, across the middle reaches of Ganjiang River, between 115 ° 06 ′ 33 ″ e to 115 ° 42 ′ 23 ″ and 27 ° 49 ′ 07 ″ n to 28 ° 09 ′ 15 ″, with a total area of 1291 square kilometers. In the 26th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221 BC), Xingan County was established and governed in Ganyang (now Zhangshu City). In 938, the area to the north of Xingan County was designated. Chongxue township of Xingan County and Jian'an Township and Xiude township of Gao'an county were allocated to build Qingjiang County in Xiaotan town (changed to Linjiang town in Song Dynasty). On October 26, 1988, Qingjiang county was abolished and Zhangshu City was established. Zhangshu City has been known as "the hub of eight provincial thoroughfares and the downtown of industry and Commerce in central Jiangxi" since ancient times. Zhejiang Jiangxi railway passes through the city, Beijing Kowloon Railway and national highway 105 run through the north and south, Jiangxi Guangdong Expressway and Shanghai Ruizhou Expressway run through the East and West, and Zhangshu port, Nanchang port and Jiujiang port are known as the three major ports of Ganjiang. Zhangshu City has more than 1000 cultural relics protection sites such as tombs, ancient buildings, stone carvings and steles. In December 2016, it was listed as the third batch of national new urbanization comprehensive pilot areas. In 2019, it will be listed as a demonstration county (District) of national intellectual property project.
In 2018, Zhangshu achieved a GDP of 40.86 billion yuan, an increase of 8.1% year on year. Among them, the added value of the primary industry was 3.72 billion yuan, an increase of 3.9%; the added value of the secondary industry was 19.86 billion yuan, an increase of 7.7%; the added value of the tertiary industry was 17.28 billion yuan, an increase of 10.1%.
Historical evolution
Zhangshu City belongs to Yangzhou in ancient times. From the Western Zhou Dynasty to the spring and Autumn period and Warring States period, it belongs to Wu, Yue and Chu successively.
In the 26th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221 BC), Xingan County was established and governed in Ganyang (now Zhangshu City).
The Western Han Dynasty was divided into three counties: Xingan, Jiancheng and Yichun. In 185, the second year of Zhongping in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Yichun county was set up as Hanping county (governing the ancient wupingwei in the gate tower of Zhongzhou Township, Zhangshu City). The city was divided into Xingan, Jiancheng and Hanping.
Hanping county was changed into Wuping County in the Three Kingdoms.
Tang Wude five years (622), to the southwest of Zhangshu taipingwei (now Changfu town) as the county, set the county. In the seventh year of Wude (624), Shiping County was abandoned and Xinyu county was established. Gaoan County, Xinyu county and Xingan County belonged to the city.
In 938, the area to the north of Xingan County was designated. Chongxue township of Xingan County and Jian'an Township and Xiude township of Gao'an county were allocated to build Qingjiang County in Xiaotan town (changed to Linjiang town in Song Dynasty).
In the third year of Chunhua (992) of the Northern Song Dynasty, Qingjiang County, Xingan County and Xinyu county were cut off and Linjiang army was set up. Linjiang town was set up and Qingjiang county was yiguowang county. In the third year of Zhiping (1066) of the Northern Song Dynasty, maocai Township and yusixian township of Xingan County were separated from Qingjiang County, and the county territory was increased from 3 to 5 townships.
On June 19, 1949, the people's Government of Qingjiang county was established in Zhangshu town (moved to Linjiang town on July 15, 1949, and moved back to Zhangshu town on March 27, 1950).
On October 26, 1988, Qingjiang county was abolished and Zhangshu City was established.

Zhangshu City is located in the transition zone between Ganzhong hills and Poyang tidal plain, and the southern part of Fengdeng Yangchao plain. The terrain is flat, rivers crisscross, few mountains. The terrain of the whole city is slightly transverse saddle shaped. The central part is the alluvial plain of the river valley, which is broad and flat, connecting the north and south. The East and West wings rise and lean towards the middle respectively. In the East, there are low mountains and high hills. The elevation of Yuhua mountain in the southeast corner of Dianxia township is 1169.1 meters, which is the watershed of Qingjiang, Xingan and Fengcheng counties. It is the highest point in the city, and decreases from southeast to northwest. To Xiyuan village in the northeast corner of Daqiao Township, the elevation is only 19 meters, which is the lowest point of the city. In the west is a low hilly area. The elevation of yuanlingcha in the northwest corner of Shanqian township is 190.5 meters. It is the boundary mountain of Qingjiang, Gaoan and Xinyu, and also the commanding height of Hexi area of the city.

The average annual temperature is 17.7 ℃, the average temperature in July is 29.3 ℃, the average temperature in January is 5.3 ℃; the extreme maximum temperature is 40.9 ℃, the extreme minimum temperature is - 11.7 ℃; the accumulated temperature ≥ 5 ℃ is 6145.6 ℃, and the accumulated temperature ≥ 10 ℃ is 5585.0 ℃. The annual precipitation is 1710.7mm, mostly concentrated from March to June, accounting for about 50% of the annual precipitation. The annual sunshine is 1718.2 hours. The frost free period is about 273 days, with the first frost in late November and the last frost at the end of February. "Cold in spring" can easily cause rotten seeds and seedlings, "cold in May" can hinder tillers and young plants of rice, "harm in autumn" can harm the flowering in the second night, rainstorm in May and June can easily lead to flood, drought in autumn, frost and snow in winter, and often damage crops.

The river in Zhangshu City belongs to Ganjiang River system. With Ganjiang River as the main axis, there are Yuanhe River, Mengshui River, Xiaojiang River and Lijiang River in the west, and Longxi River, Xiangxi River and Qingfeng River in the East. It has a total length of 263.65 km and a water surface area of 78456 mu.
Ganjiang River (Qingjiang River), one of the main tributaries of the Yangtze River, is the largest river in Jiangxi Province. Located in the South Bank of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, it originates from the West foot of Wuyi Mountain on the border between Jiangxi and Fujian, and runs through the whole province from south to north. Ganjiang River passes through xiazhou of Xingan County, Yongtai Town, Zhoushang Township, Yanghu Township and the west of Zhangshu City, Zhangjiashan street and Daqiao street in the northeast, and Fengcheng in niuwanzhou. It is 28.4 km long, accounting for 3.84% of the length of the main river.
Yuanhe River is called Xiujiang River in the upper reaches and Yushui River in ancient times. Originating from the north foot of the main peak of Wugong Mountain in Pingxiang City, it winds eastward. It enters from Naoshang (qingjiangnao) of huangtugang town in the southwest of the county, and flows eastward along the Nanjie (huangtugang town and Changfu town) of the county. When it reaches Xiayu village of Changfu Town, it turns to the north and goes straight into the middle of the county (Linjiang town and Zhoushang township), and joins Ganjiang River at hehuguan of Zhangjiashan street
Xiaojiang, formerly known as xiaoyangshui, is now called Jinglou river. It has many sources. It mainly comes from the hilly area in the northwest of Shanqian Township, under Yuanling village, the main peak in the west of the city, to Yangtian (xiangtian) to form Xiaojiang. The famous Shang Dynasty site in Wucheng is located in the upper reaches of Xiaojiang River. The Northeast passes through the west of Linjiang Town, Jinglou town and Zhangjiashan street. Between the "scissors mouth" in the northeast corner of Jinglou town and the north of xiatuhu village in Zhangjiashan street, Huili river reaches Quangang town of Fengcheng City and enters Ganjiang River. It has a total length of 55 kilometers and a drainage area of 387.6 square kilometers.
Menghe River, a tributary of Yuanhe River, has a total length of 44 kilometers. The rain collection area is 476 square kilometers. It comes from Mengshan of Shanggao County, enters Shuibei township of Xinyu City, flows through four townships of Yicheng, Zhongzhou, huangtugang and Changfu, and joins Yuanhe at Yanjia village of maqinghetou village of Changfu town. In front of the building gate of Zhongzhou township is the site of ancient Wuping County. In ancient times, the lower reaches of Taipingjiang River were called Taipingjiang River, and there were old traces of qiwushan, which was the site of Pingxian county (or Zhiping county) at the beginning of Tang Dynasty.
Longxi River, the ancient Gan River. During the period of the Republic of China, the lower reaches of the river was once called "dogneck River". It originates from Shipi in the southeast of the city, winds northeast around zigan mountain, passes through Xingan County, and then enters the Cao family in Yongtai port. The total length of the territory is 20.6 km.
Xiangxi River, the ancient water of the pavilion, is named after its origin in Gesao mountain, also known as Chenxiang river. The main source is xiangshikeng on the west side of Yuhua mountain. It meets with zigan mountain at zhaojiaqiao, passes Xiangxi River to nanshangshang village, and flows northward to Ganjiang River. The main river is 62 kilometers long, 42.5 kilometers long, and the drainage area is 317.7 square kilometers. Caoxi, the main tributary, originates from Fucheng, Yanghu Township, with a total length of 24 kilometers and a drainage area of 45.9 square kilometers.
Li River, the ancient Qushui, originated from Gao'an. Yaolidu and Xiaojiang meet in the northeast of Jinglou Town, with a length of 30.5 km.
Qingfeng River, originated from Fengcheng Zijin Mountain, slants through the northeast corner of the border and then enters Fengcheng. The territory is 2.65 kilometers long and is not navigable.
