Hunnan District Hunnan district is a municipal district of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. It was founded in 1964 and was named Dongling District. In August 2014, it got its name because most of the districts are located on the South Bank of Hunhe River. It is located in the southeast of Shenyang City, between 123 ° 18'41 "e to 123 ° 48'19" and 41 ° 36'10 "n to 41 ° 57'54". It has a total area of 896.41 square kilometers, 15 streets and a population of more than 410000. Hunhe River, the second largest river in Liaoning Province, meanders through the territory. Hunnan district is an important transportation hub connecting Shenyang and central Liaoning urban agglomeration. Shenyang Taoxian International Airport is located in the territory. Shenfu expressway, Shendan expressway, shentie expressway, Shenyang Ring Expressway, da'er Ring Road, Changchang railway, Shenfu railway and Shendan railway run through the territory.
In 2016, Hunnan District achieved a GDP of 33 billion yuan, and the per capita disposable income of urban residents was 40748 yuan, ranking the third in Shenyang.
Hunnan district is a special experimental area of Shenyang's reform and opening up, and also a window of Shenyang's reform and opening up. In May 2016, it was established as a demonstration base for mass entrepreneurship and innovation by the State Council.
History of construction
Dongling District was built in 1964, and it got its name because the mausoleum of Nurhachi, the emperor of the Qing Dynasty, is located in the territory. Dongling District was a suburb composed of 14 rural people's communes of Dadong District, Shenhe District and Heping District at that time. The next year, it was merged into the three people's communes of Sujiatun District, so it expanded into the largest district in Shenyang, covering an area of 913 square kilometers.
In May 1988, Nanhu Science and Technology Development Zone of Shenyang was established, located in Dongling District.
In March 1991, Shenyang Nanhu Science and technology development zone was approved by the State Council as a national high-tech industrial development zone. In May 1996, it was renamed Shenyang High-tech Industrial Development Zone.
In October 2001, Hunnan New Area was officially established according to the opinions of Shenyang municipal Party committee and Shenyang Municipal People's Government on the comprehensive development of Hunnan New Area (Shen Weifa No.17).
On February 28, 2010, the CPC Shenyang Municipal Committee and municipal government decided to integrate the original area south of Hunhe River in Dongling District, Hunnan New District (Shenyang high tech Zone) and hanggao base into Dongling District (Hunnan New District), with an area of about 600 square kilometers. Dongling District, Hunnan New District (Shenyang high tech Zone) and hanggao base jointly work. The new district implements the administrative system of "two levels and two systems" between the district government and the functional areas, forming a "7 + 1" development mode covering the whole region (8 functional areas). The management committee is set up in the functional area, and works under the leadership of Dongling District Party committee and district government, taking full responsibility for the tasks undertaken and exercising certain management authority.
In July 2010, the work of renaming the district was officially launched.
On June 17, 2014, with the approval of the State Council and the Ministry of civil affairs, Dongling District was renamed as Hunnan district.
On August 1, 2014, Dongling District was officially renamed Hunnan district.

On November 21, 2003, with the approval of Liaoning Provincial People's government, the Korean township of Hunhe Station in Dongling District was cancelled, and two sub district offices were set up respectively in the East and west of Hunhe Station, with the long distance railway and the South Third Ring Road as the boundary. The sub district office in the east of Hunhe Station was managed by Hunnan New District.
In 2004, the people's Government of Liaoning Province approved (liaozheng No. 78) that Changbai sub District Office (originally managed by Hunnan New District) should be assigned to Heping District. After the zoning adjustment, Dongling District covers an area of 889.94 square kilometers and governs 12 streets, 6 towns, 1 Township and 1 nationality township: Nanta street, Quanyuan street, maguanqiao street, fengle street, Huishan street, Dongling street, Yingda street, Qianjin Street, Donghu street, Wusan street, East Street of Hunhe Station, West Street of Hunhe Station, Taoxian Town, Gaokan Town, Zhujiatun town and Shenzhou town Jingzi Town, Lixiang Town, Baita Town, wangbinggou Township, Mantang Manchu Township.

On March 28, 2005, Shenyang Municipal People's government issued the notice on adjusting the administrative jurisdiction of some areas of Nanta sub district office: the administrative jurisdiction of the areas north of the Second Ring Road, south of Wencui Road, west of the second Tiantan street and east of Nanta shoe street under the jurisdiction of Nanta sub District Office is transferred back to Dongling District from Hunnan New Area.
