Dongchang District is located in the Hunjiang depression basin between Laoling branch and Longgang Branch in the southwest of Changbai Mountains. The highest place in the territory is baijiyao peak at the junction of Jinchang town and Tonghua County, with an altitude of 1318.3 meters. The lowest point is Hunjiang River Valley of Jinchang Zhenjiang Yancun group 6, with an altitude of 332 meters, and the average altitude of Dongchang District is 493 meters.
Dongchang District is a low mountainous area along the Hunjiang River. The right bank of Hunjiang River belongs to the Longgang mountains of Changbai Mountain system, which are mostly the low and middle mountains of clastic rocks. The main peaks are Yuhuang mountain, Guandao mountain, Ditai mountain, beidading mountain, northwest Tian Mountain, chair mountain, etc. On the left bank of Hunjiang River is Laoling mountain range of Changbai Mountain system, which is mainly composed of metamorphic rocks.
