Kelan County Kelan county belongs to Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, located in the middle of the Loess Plateau in Northwest Shanxi, Guancen Shanxi north foot. It covers an area of 1984 square kilometers, including 780000 mu of arable land. The county government is located in Lanyi town.
Kelan county is a "national model city of double support", "national advanced county of safe construction", "one county and one industry advanced county of the whole province", "advanced county of afforestation of the whole province". By 2013, Kelan county has jurisdiction over 2 towns, 10 townships and 202 administrative villages, with a total population of 85784 and a GDP of 1714.47 million yuan.
On April 18, 2019, the people's Government of Shanxi Province approved Kelan county to withdraw from poverty-stricken counties. In October 2020, it was rated as the national model city (county) of double support.

Historical evolution
In the Yin and Shang Dynasties (16th century bc-11th century BC), it was in Jizhou area.
During the Western Zhou Dynasty (11th century B.C. - 770 B.C.), it was the military area of Yanjing.
The spring and Autumn Period belonged to Jin Dynasty. After the third division of the Jin Dynasty, it was occupied by King fan of linhulou. In the first year of King Wuling of Zhao Dynasty (325 BC), King Wuling of Zhao Dynasty set up his army over huanghualing, expelling King Loufan of Linhu and restoring Loufan County. Kelan belonged to Zhao.
At the beginning of the Western Han Dynasty, it belongs to Taiyuan county and belongs to Xihe County of the History Department of Shuofang.

During the northern and Southern Dynasties: in the Northern Wei Dynasty (420-534), Kelan was the land of Xiurong county. Later, it was named Lanzhou because of its Kelan mountain. In the second year of Heqing in the Northern Qi Dynasty (563), the Soviet garrison was built.
In the early Sui Dynasty, Loufan County was restored, and Kelan was its territory. Daye three years (607) home Kelan town.
