In January 1950, Wuzhong City was upgraded from Lingwu county to a county-level city directly under the jurisdiction of Ningxia Province. Lingwu county is divided into one city and three districts of Wuzhong City, which is named by the number of four districts, a total of 20 townships. Among them, the first district is in town, the second district is in Dongta temple, the third district is in Wangjia temple, and the fourth district is in Shangqiao.
In 1955, the original four districts and 20 townships were adjusted to 7 townships, including dongtasi, guchengwan, qinqiao, Zaoyuan, chenyuantan, Shangqiao and luoqu.
In October 1958, the people's commune was zoned and the whole county was set up as a commune - Wuzhong people's commune, with the original seven townships as the management area under the jurisdiction of the commune. The next year, an additional Street Management Office was set up.
In October 1960, the city was divided into three people's communes: Wuzhong, Hongqi and Dongfeng. Jinji county was abolished, and most of malinqu commune and Shuangzha commune under the jurisdiction of Jinji county were under the jurisdiction of Wuzhong City.
