Historical evolution
Puge, in Yi language, means caodianzi under shanyakou. The Yi people call Puji. Puge is named after Puji.
At the end of the Warring States period and the beginning of the Western Han Dynasty more than 2000 years ago, it belonged to qiongdu (today's Xichang county). According to historical records, biographies of Southwest Yi people, it is recorded that "from the north of Yunnan, the number of Jun Chang is the largest, and qiongdu is the largest, all of which are pyramiding, farming and gathering.". More than 2000 years ago, the local ancestors lived, lived and multiplied on this land.
In the sixth year of Yuanding (111), Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty set up Yuexi County, and Puge was under the jurisdiction of Yuexi County.
At the end of the Tang Dynasty, he entered Nanzhao and became the aduxun and Jianchang Prefecture.
In 1262, the emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty set up a thousand households, and in 1281, he was promoted to the office of the general manager of the army and the people. In 1289, the office was closed to Lizhou, belonging to jianchangwei.
At the beginning of Ming Dynasty, it attacked the Yuan Dynasty and became Lizhou, belonging to the military and civilian Command Department of jianchangwei.
In 1728, Changwei was transformed into Ningyuan Prefecture, and Puge Adu's chief and Deputy officers belonged to Ningyuan Prefecture. Guangxu 20 years (1897) set up a police sergeant in Puge, Xuantong first year (1909) Ningyuan house moved to Puge. In the second year of Xuantong, Puge township was established under the jurisdiction of Xichang county.
In 1912, Puge set up a county assistant. In 1914, pugezhao Adu Tusi was divided into Xichang county.
In February 1950, Puge was liberated and established a governing Bureau under the jurisdiction of Xichang department. In 1952, Puge was transferred from Xichang to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region. On December 27, Puge County People's government was formally established.
In November 2020, the people's Government of Sichuan Province decided to withdraw Puge county from poverty-stricken counties.

Puge county is located in Hengduan Mountains of Yunnan Guizhou Plateau. Luoji Mountain and wukeliangzi face each other from east to west, and Zhongliang mountain runs through them. The mountain area below 3500 meters above sea level is relatively small, with the middle mountain (including subalpine) as the main area, accounting for 67.4% of the total area.
