In the early Tang Dynasty (618-907), "Gaozu changed Zhuozhou into Zhuozhou", and in the first year of Tianbao (742), it was renamed Wuqing County.

In June 1962, it was divided into Baodi County and Xianghe County.

In 2001, Baodi County was abolished and Baodi District was established.

The word "Di" in Baodi District originally read only "ch í", meaning "high land in water". It is said that during the Qing Dynasty, Qianlong traveled here on a tour and read Baodi "d Di", which has become a golden saying ever since.
