Jimo District Jimo district is under the jurisdiction of Qingdao City, Shandong Province. The county was established in the Qin Dynasty and the city was built in the Sui Dynasty, with a history of more than 1400 years. It is located in the southwest of Shandong Peninsula, east to the Yellow Sea, across the sea from Japan and South Korea, South to Laoshan, near Qingdao. The landform in the territory is generally low mountains and hills, belonging to warm temperate monsoon continental climate zone. By the end of 2016, there were 7 towns and 8 streets in Jimo District, with a total population of 1214500. On October 30, 2017, Jimo district was officially listed.
Jimo is a national environmental protection model city, an excellent tourism city in China, a national advanced city in scientific and technological progress, and a provincial civilized city. In 2015, it ranked fifteenth in the Chinese mainland's best county-level city, and the seventh largest county economy in Shandong Province, ten in 2015. In 2016, the comprehensive competitiveness of Jimo District ranked ninth in the country, becoming the first county in Jiangbei. In May 2016, Jimo district was rated as the fourth batch of national intellectual property demonstration cities by the State Intellectual Property Office. In Shang and Zhou dynasties, Jimo belonged to Laiyi.
In 1046 B.C., King Wu of Zhou established the state and the western part of the city was the fief of the Yi state. In the 49th year of King Ping of Zhou Dynasty (722 BC), "Ji Ren felled Yi", and the ancient city of Yi state was located in the ancient town of Lancun town. In the sixth year of the Duke of Luxiang (567 BC), "the Marquis of Qi destroyed Lai" and "the Duke of Lai ran to Tang". The ancient city of Tang was located in the ancient village of today's yifengdian town. After Qi destroyed Lai, Jimo belonged to Qi. In the 21th year of King Xian of Zhou Dynasty (348 BC), King Wei of Qi granted the title of Jimo doctor to ten thousand families. At that time, Jimo City was located in dazhumao village, Guxian Town, Pingdu City. During the Warring States period, Jimo City was as prosperous as Linzi, the capital of Qi state.
Qin unified China, and Jimo was designated as a county, belonging to Jiaodong county.
In the Western Han Dynasty, except for the southeast part of ancient Jimo County, the present Jimo district also includes Zhuangwu County, Gaoyu county and Buqi county.
In the new mang period, Jimo was renamed as "Jishan", Zhuangwu as "Xiaowu", Gaoyu as "yinglu". After the death of Xinmang, the old names such as Jimo were restored.
In the early Eastern Han Dynasty, Gaoyu county was abolished.
When Wei, Shu and Wu were at the same time, Jimo County, Zhuangwu county and Buqi County belonged to Wei. Jimo County belonged to Beihai state, Zhuangwu County belonged to Chengyang County, Buqi County belonged to Donglai county.
After the unification of Jin Dynasty, the subordination of Jimo county and Zhuangwu County remained unchanged.
During the period of Sixteen States, Jimo area had a changeable relationship of subordination in about 100 years, which belonged to the later Zhao, the former Yan, the former Qin, the Eastern Jin, the Southern Yan and other countries.
In the southern and Northern Dynasties, Zhuangwu county was abolished in Song Dynasty; in 556, Jimo county and Buqi county were abolished at the same time and merged into Changguang county.
In the 16th year of kaihuang (596) of Sui Dynasty, Jimo county was rebuilt at the present site. It is also the original place of Zhuangwu, Buqi and Gaoyu counties, belonging to Laizhou (Donglai county). In Tang Dynasty and Five Dynasties, it belonged to daolaizhou, Henan Province.
In the Northern Song Dynasty, it belonged to Laizhou (Donglai county), Jingdong East Road.
Jingdong was changed into Shandong in Jin Dynasty, belonging to Laizhou, Shandong east road.
In the Yuan Dynasty, Shandong Province was directly under the jurisdiction of Zhongshu Province, and Jimo was successively under the jurisdiction of Jiaozhou in Yidu road and Laizhou in panyangfu road. In 1265, Jimo county was abandoned again, and was transferred to Ye County and Jiaojiao (now Pingdu City), and its system was restored about 1349 years ago.
In the Ming Dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of Qingzhou Prefecture. In 1376, it belonged to Jiaozhou Prefecture.
In the early Qing Dynasty, Jimo County belonged to Jiaozhou, Laizhou Prefecture. In 1905, Jiaozhou was promoted to Zhili state, belonging to Denglai qingjiao road and Jimo county. In 1897, under the pretext of the Caozhou religious case, Germany sent troops to occupy Jiaozhou Bay and forced the Qing government to delimit part of the land along the coast as the German jiaoao concession, including the area south of Baisha River in Renhua township of Jimo county and the yindao area in Liren township.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), following the old system of the late Qing Dynasty, Jimo county was subordinate to Jiaozhou, qingjiao Road, Denglai.
In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Denglai qingjiao road was changed into Jiaodong Road, Jiaozhou Zhili Prefecture was changed into Jiaoxian County, and Jimo county was attached to it.
In 1914, the "state" system was abolished, and Jimo county was directly under the jurisdiction of Jiaodong road.
In 1925, it belonged to laijiao road. In the early days of Nanjing National Government, the system of "Dao" was abolished, and Jimo county was established in Shandong Province.
After the Anti Japanese War, the Nanjing National Government set up the administrative supervision area in the Kuomintang controlled area of Shandong Province, Jimo county belongs to the eighth administrative supervision area; in November 1939, some counties of the eighth administrative supervision area set up the thirteenth administrative supervision area. Jimo county belongs to the 13th administrative supervision district.
On January 17, 1938, the Japanese army occupied Jimo City, and Jimo County belonged to ludongdao (the Japanese army divided Shandong into four roads and two cities in the occupied area, with the exception of Qingdao Municipality directly under the provisional government of the puppet North China).
In June 1939, the Japanese puppet regime assigned Jimo county to Qingdao city and set up "Jimo Township Office". In February 1940, it was renamed "Jimo District Office".
On September 2, 1942, the Anti Japanese democratic government of Jimo County under the leadership of the Communist Party of China was established in diqian Village (now yifengdian town) in the northwest of the county.
In August 1943, it was divided into two counties, namely Jimo County in Luxi area and Jidong County in Ludong area.
In April 1944, Jidong county was merged into Jimo county. In July 1945, Jidong county was restored. During the war of liberation, Jimo county and Jidong County belonged to the Nanhai special area of Jiaodong district.
On May 26, 1949, Jimo City was liberated, and Jimo and Jidong counties were liberated.
In the spring of 1950, the Nanhai special zone was abolished, and Jimo county and Jidong County belong to Jiaozhou special zone.
In March 1956, Jidong county was merged into Jimo county and changed into Laiyang district.
In October 1957, it was transferred to Qingdao.

In July 1989, with the approval of the Ministry of civil affairs of the people's Republic of China, the county was removed to build a city.
On September 20, 2017, the State Council and Shandong provincial government approved the request for zoning adjustment of Qingdao city and agreed to abolish Jimo City at the county level and establish Jimo District of Qingdao city.

In August 2012, Wangcun town was abolished, and its original administrative region was merged into Tianheng town. The jurisdiction of the newly established Tianheng town government is under the jurisdiction of the former Wangcun town government, and the jurisdiction of the former Tianheng town government is under the jurisdiction of Tianheng island tourist resort.
In 2017, the State Council and Shandong provincial government approved the request for zoning adjustment of Qingdao City, agreed to abolish Jimo City at the county level and establish Jimo District of Qingdao City, with the former administrative region of Jimo City as the administrative region of Jimo district.
