In the Western Han Dynasty, Daxia county was established from Wuhan county. In AD 9, Wang Mang changed the name of Daxia county to shunxia. Wang Mang was defeated, and Liu Xiu, Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty, restored the name of Daxia county.
Daxia county was abolished in the Western Jin Dynasty. In the last years of the Western Jin Dynasty, Zhang Jishang, the founder of the former Liang regime, was allowed to set up Jinxing County in Linxia and the southern part of Qinghai, leading Jinxing County, Wuhan county and Daxia County, and Daxia county was restored.
During the period of the Sixteen States, Daxia was always the place where the separatist regime of Longxi was contested. It changed hands frequently, and its abolition was uncertain.
In the northern and Southern Dynasties, Daxia county was changed to Daxia County in the third year of emperor Xianwen's reign (469 A.D.), and it was soon restored to Daxia County, belonging to Jincheng County of Hezhou. In the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Daxia County belonged to Wuhan County of Hezhou.
During the reign of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty, the county system was abolished and Daxia county was assigned to Hezhou.

After the first year of zongguangde in Tang Dynasty (763 A.D.), the whole territory of Hezhou was occupied by Tubo, and Daxia County became an important town in the east of Tubo Dynasty.
In the sixth year of Xining reign of emperor Shenzong of Song Dynasty (1073 A.D.), Daxia County returned to the Central Plains Dynasty, and the city of khonuo in Tubo was changed into the city of Dingqiang in Song Dynasty. In the Southern Song Dynasty, the whole territory of Hezhou was owned by the Jin Dynasty, and Qiang city was designated as one of the three villages under the jurisdiction of Hezhou.
In the Yuan Dynasty, Qiang county was established, ranking first among the three counties of Hezhou Road, and was once the location of Hezhou road administration.
In Ming Dynasty, Dingqiang county was abolished and Dingqiang inspection department was set up, which was under the jurisdiction of Hezhou Wei. Dingqiang post and Dingqiang delivery office were set up at the same time.
In the Qing Dynasty, Qiang city was changed to taizisi city because of the Ming Dynasty system. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong, Hezhou was transferred to taizisi city.
