Yao'an County is one of the counties under the jurisdiction of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province. The county is located in the northwest of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, adjacent to Mouding County in the East, Nanhua County in the south, Dayao County in the north and Xiangyun County in Dali Prefecture across a Paojiang River in the west, with a total area of 1803 square kilometers. Yao'an County is 230 kilometers away from Kunming, 75 kilometers away from Chuxiong, and 190 kilometers away from Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province. In 2011, the total population of Yao'an County was 197700, ranking eighth in Chuxiong Prefecture in 2010.
As of 2014, Yao'an County covers an area of 1803 square kilometers, governs 6 towns and 3 townships, and the county government is located in Dongchuan town. The main scenic spots in Yao'an County are Defeng temple, Longhua temple, Yangpai reservoir and so on.
On September 29, 2018, Yao'an County was approved to withdraw from the poverty-stricken county by Yunnan provincial Party committee and government. On February 2, 2019, it was rated as the county-level advanced unit of Chinese medicine by the State Administration of traditional Chinese medicine.
Historical evolution
Yao comes from Yaozhou. "Yaozhou" originated from "in the fourth year of Wude, Li Ying, the pacifying ambassador, changed his surname to Yaozhou". Yuan took the idea of chaos and long-term stability, and set Yao'an road as the general manager of the army and the people.
The pre Qin Dynasty was the land of ancient Dian.
In the second year of Yuanfeng reign of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty (109 BC), Yizhou county was set up, and nongdong county was one of the 24 counties under its jurisdiction. At that time, nongdong county was under the jurisdiction of today's Chuxiong, Yaozhou, Dayao, Nanhua, mouding, Guangtong, Yuanmou, etc.; the city site of nongdong city was in gaotuoshan, the old village of Guanglu town.
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, nongdong County belonged to Yizhou Yizhou County; in the Three Kingdoms, Shuhan County belonged to Yizhou Yunnan county, and nongdong county was the county government. In the Western Jin Dynasty, nongdong county belongs to Yunnan county of ningzhou.
From the Eastern Jin Dynasty to the Southern Dynasties, it was Xingning County in ningzhou and nongdong County in Song Dynasty. In the Southern Dynasties, Qi and Liang were Xingning County of ningzhou. The Northern Zhou Dynasty belonged to Nanning.
In the 14th year of kaihuang reign of Sui Dynasty (594), nongdong general manager's office was set up, which belongs to Nanning general manager's office.
In 621, the fourth year of Wude, Emperor Gaozu of Tang Dynasty, Yao Zhou was established in Yunnan Province of Han Dynasty (today's Xiangyun area), under the jurisdiction of Yao Cheng (today's Yao'an), Lunan (today's Shiyang area) and great wall (today's Dayao area), and the governor's office of Yao Zhou was set up under the jurisdiction of Jiannan Jiedushi. In the first year of Emperor Gaozong's reign in the Tang Dynasty (664), the governor of Yaozhou was transferred to Yao'an, which is now under the jurisdiction of Yaocheng county (today's Yao'an County, and today's Fucheng town). The name of "nongdong" was changed to "Yaozhou", which is the beginning of the name of Yaozhou in the history of Yao'an. In the first year of emperor Dezong's reign of Xingyuan (784), Meng family set up nongdong festival in nongdong Prefecture, while in Nanzhao state of Tang Dynasty, it was nongdong festival in nongdong city.
The state of Dali in Song Dynasty was called nongdong mansion (Tongya mansion).
In the seventh year of emperor Xianzong of Yuan Dynasty (1257), tongyanqianhu was set up, belonging to ten thousand households in Dali; in the twelfth year of Yuan Dynasty (1275), Yaozhou was changed, belonging to Dali road; in the first year of Tianli (1328), Yaozhou was promoted to be the military and civilian general office of Yao'an Road, which was governed by the Gaoshi ancestral hall in Guanglu town of Yao'an County, and governed by Yaozhou and Dayao County. In 1382, Yao'an's mansion was set up in Hongwu of Ming Dynasty, which belongs to Yunnan's chief political department. In 1394, Yao'an's military and civilian mansion was set up, which governs Yaozhou (now Yao'an) and Dayao County.
In the early Qing Dynasty, it was Yao'an Junmin government in the Ming Dynasty; in July of the eighth year of Yongzheng (1730), Yao'an Junmin government belonged to yixidao (stationed in Dali government); in February of the 35th year of Qianlong (1770), Yao'an Junmin government was abolished and yao'zhou changed to yixidao Chuxiong government.
In March of 1913, Yanfeng county was set up by Yao'an County, and the county government was set up in baiyanjing. In April of the same year, yixidao was changed to dianxidao, and Yaozhou was changed to Yao'an County, which belonged to dianxidao. In June of 1914, dianxidao was changed to Tengyue Dao (located in Tengchong County), which belonged to Yao'an County. In 1929, Tengyue road was abolished and Yao'an County was directly under the province. In 1946, Yao'an County was the office of the eighth administrative supervision district.

In 1950, Yao'an County belonged to Chuxiong district. On October 18, 1957, the State Council approved the establishment of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture. Yao'an County belongs to Chuxiong prefecture (Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture was established on April 15, 1958). On September 13, 1960, the 103rd session of the plenary session of the State Council adopted: abolishing Yongren, Yanfeng and Yao'an counties, and merging the administrative regions of Yongren, Yanfeng and Yao'an counties into Dayao County (merging on October 15, 1958). On March 27, 1962, the 115th plenary session of the State Council decided to establish Yao'an County. It has jurisdiction over 3 towns and 9 townships: Dongchuan Town, Qianchang Town, Guanglu Town, Dalongkou Township, Dahekou Township, Guantun Township, Longgang Township, mixing Township, Renhe Township, Zhongzhong Township, Taiping Township and zuomen township. The county government is located in Dongchuan town.
In 2002, Dalongkou Township, mixing Township, Longgang Township and Renhe Township were removed from township to town (approved by the provincial government on July 18, 2002).
On December 12, 2005, the people's Government of Yunnan Province approved the plan of withdrawing and merging some villages and towns in Chuxiong Prefecture. Among them, Yao'an County abolished Renhe Town, put Renhe, Jiefeng, dragonfly and Qinghe under the jurisdiction of Dongchuan Town, baishidi village committee of Renhe Town under the jurisdiction of Taiping Township, Xinmin village committee of Taiping Township under the jurisdiction of Qianchang Town, and changed Taiping Township into Taiping town after administrative division adjustment, Taiping Town under the jurisdiction of Taiping, geju and Qinghe Four village committees of Laojie and Chenjia, baishidi village committee of Renhe Town, and the town government stationed in the former Taiping Township Government; Longgang Town and Dalongkou town were abolished, and the areas under the jurisdiction of the former Longgang Town and Dalongkou town were merged into Dongchuan Town, and the administrative areas under the jurisdiction of the former Dongchuan Town, Longgang Town and Dalongkou Town, and the administrative areas of Renhe, sandifeng, dragonfly and Qingshui of Renhe Town after the administrative division adjustment There are four village committees in the river, and the town government is stationed in the former Longgang town government.

It is the largest Bazi in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, and has the reputation of "granary in Central Yunnan". The dragonfly river flows from south to North from the center of Bazi.
Yao'an Bazi, which accounts for 20.7% of the total area of Yao'an County, is "three high and one low" compared with neighboring counties, forming a valley, which is 12 meters higher than Nanhua in the south, 102 meters higher than mouding in the East, 30 meters higher than Dayao in the north, and 188 meters lower than Xiangyun in the West.
