Chuxiong Chuxiong City is the prefecture level administrative capital of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, and also the political, economic, cultural and traffic center of Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture.
Chuxiong City is located in the middle of Yunnan Guizhou Plateau. It connects Kunming in the East, Dali in the west, Pu'er in the South and Panzhihua in the north. It is 152 km away from Kunming in the East and 179 km away from Dali in the West. National Highway 320, national highway 108, g56 Hangzhou Ruizhou expressway, Chengdu Kunming railway and other railways pass through the city.
By the end of 2017, Chuxiong had an area of 4433 square kilometers, with 12 towns and 3 townships, and 530491 registered residence population, of whom 113249 were the Yi nationality.
On December 7, 2016, Chuxiong was listed as the third batch of national new urbanization comprehensive pilot areas. In December 2018, it was selected as one of the top 100 county economic investment potential in China. On September 20, 2019, it won the honorary title of national greening model unit. Top 100 counties and cities in Western China in 2019. On December 31, 2019, it will be selected as a typical county of rural innovation and entrepreneurship in China. Historical evolution
Chuxiong City, in the pre Qin period, belonged to the state of Dian.
Han Dynasty belongs to Yizhou county.
Shuhan and Western Jin belong to Yunnan county, while Eastern Jin belongs to Jiandu county.
The northern and Southern Dynasties were the areas under the separation of Cuan family.
The Sui Dynasty belonged to kunzhou.
In the early Tang Dynasty, most of the city territory belonged to Lanzhou, and the northern part of Lvhe belonged to Huazhou, which was subordinate to the governor's office of Nanning. In Nanzhao period, it belonged to nongdong Festival, and there were quyi, Lanfu, shiguyi and other towns in the city territory.
In the early period of Dali state in Song Dynasty, it was Bailu Department (later known as Shijun) with fujinfu, shigufu and other buildings, subordinate to Yunsheng Jiedu; in the later period, it abandoned Jiedu and set up Weichu mansion, with Bailu department, shigufu and Dejiang city in the city.
In the early Yuan Dynasty, there were two thousand households in Weichu and shigu, which were under the jurisdiction of weichuwanhu government. Among them, weichuqianhu led Fumin (today's Lucheng town) and jingle (today's Donghua town) two hundred households, who lived with weichuwanhu in today's Lucheng town. Shigu Qianhu was in today's Luhe town. In the eighth year of the Yuan Dynasty (1271), weichuwanhu government was changed into weichulu, weichuqianhu was set up in Weichu County, and Fumin and jingle two hundred households were set up in Weichu county In 1278, Weichu county was upgraded to Weizhou and governed by Fumin and jingle counties; in 1284, Weizhou was restored to Weichu County, and Fumin and jingle were incorporated into Weichu County; in 1287, geshigu county was the township.
In 1382, Weichu county was changed into Chuxiong County, which was subordinate to Chuxiong Prefecture, which was set up by Weichu road in Yuan Dynasty.
In the Qing Dynasty, the Ming system was followed.
In 1913, Chuxiong mansion was abolished. Chuxiong county is directly under the jurisdiction of the provincial government except the eighth Office of the Commissioner of administrative supervision.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Chuxiong county was under the jurisdiction of Chuxiong special region. In April 1958, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture was established, and Chuxiong county was one of the 15 counties under the jurisdiction of the Autonomous Prefecture. In September of the same year, Shuangbai, mouding and Nanhua counties were merged into Chuxiong county. By 1960, the merged three counties had been restored. In September 1983, with the approval of the State Council, Chuxiong county was abolished and Chuxiong City was established.

All the mountains in the city belong to the Eastern Branch of Ailao Mountain system, mostly northwest and Southeast. The highest point in the territory is xiaoyuefen mountain in Ailao Mountains of xishelu Township, with an altitude of 2916 meters; the lowest point is the intersection of Lishe River, yijiala River and Shiyang River, with an altitude of 691 meters.

River system
The rivers in Chuxiong belong to Yuanjiang River and Jinshajiang River. Lishe River in the upper reaches of Yuanjiang River enters from Nanhua County and passes through the southwest of the city. Its tributaries are Malong River, Sanjie River, Baiyi River, WuJie River, Yishe River, Biji River and Zixiong river. Jinsha River has its tributary, Longchuan River, which enters from Luhe and flows from west to East through Donggua, Lucheng and Cangling, and then leaves from west to north. The main tributaries are Zidian River, Xijing River, Heqian River, Zhaizi River, Qinglong River and Cangling river.

As of 2012, there are 519 species of wild animals in Chuxiong, including 29 amphibians, 56 reptiles, 329 birds and 105 mammals. There are 64 species of wild animals under state protection, such as bee monkey and Silver Pheasant.
