Zixing, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hunan Province, is located in the southeast of Hunan Province. It is one of the birthplaces of Chen merchants because the old county government of Tang Dynasty was located on the Bank of Zixing river. Zixing city is located in the upper reaches of Leishui in Xiangjiang River Basin, at the West foot of Luoxiao mountain range and the south end of chayong basin. It is the intersection of Hunan, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces. In the Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Cangwu County, and the county seat was located in Chen.
In the Western Han Dynasty, it successively belonged to the state of Changsha, Guiyang County and the Department of Cishi in Jingzhou. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, the county was built in the first year of Yonghe (136), which was called Hanning. The county was located in front of Fenghuang Mountain (belonging to the old town, which has been submerged by Dongjiang Lake Reservoir).
During the Three Kingdoms period, it was under the jurisdiction of Soochow.
Jin Dynasty, the first year of Taikang (280) belongs to Jingzhou; Yongxi belongs to Jiangzhou; Yongjia belongs to Xiangzhou.
During the northern and Southern Dynasties, it was called Chen county. In the second year of Qi Jianyuan (480), it belonged to Xiangzhou; in the Tianjian period of Liang Wudi, it belonged to Hengzhou; in the Tianjia period of Chen, it belonged to donghengzhou.
In the Sui Dynasty, it was changed to Jinxing in the ninth year of kaihuang (589), Chenzhou in the twelfth year of Daye (616), and Tanzhou in the thirteenth year of Daye (617).
In the Tang Dynasty, the first year of Zhenguan (627) belonged to Jiangnan Xidao; the second year of Xianheng (671) was changed to Zixing, which still belonged to Jiangnan Xidao.
In the Five Dynasties period, it belonged to southern Chu at the beginning; in the early years of Qianyou in the later Han Dynasty, it was changed to Tai county and belonged to Southern Han.
In the Southern Song Dynasty, in 1229, LiZong changed the name of the county to Xingning, where Guan Zihao (now Xingning town) was established.
Yuan Dynasty, to yuan 13 years (1276) belong to Huguang province.
In the Ming Dynasty, it was under the jurisdiction of Hunan governor pianyuan in the 13th year of Hongwu (1380).

In 1914, it was renamed Zixing county because of the same name as Xingning County in Guangdong Province.
