Historical evolution
In the primitive society, a large number of stone tools and mammal fossils were obtained from Qingciyao village in the west of the city, which proves that Datong city had human settlements in the late Paleolithic and Neolithic times.
Xia, Shang, Zhou and the spring and Autumn period were the residence of Beidi and Loufan.
During the Warring States period, King Wuling of Zhao was riding and shooting in Hufu. In 300 BC, he sent famous general Li Mu to guard zhiyunzhong, Yanmen and Daijun. It was an important place in the northern part of Zhao state, and Datong City was established.

In May 1949, there were one district (now Beijie street, including Beiguan), two districts (now Xijie street, including Dongguan), three districts (now Dongjie street, including Dongguan) and four districts (now Nanjie street, including Nanguan) in the city. The district government was established and later changed to the district office. On July 28 of the same year, part of the rural areas in Datong City were divided into districts 1 and 2 (baimacheng and wohuwan were divided into District 1, Songzhuang, xiahuangzhuang, Wulidian, xishuimo, Shilidian, Shilipu, majunying, Fangfang village and Wayao Village were divided into District 2).
