Dongping County, belonging to Tai'an City, Shandong Province, is located in the southwest of Shandong Province, with the Yellow River in the West and Mount Tai in the East, covering a total area of 1343 square kilometers.

Historical evolution
Dongping was called Dongyuan in ancient times. The period of Tang, Yu, Xia and Shang belonged to Xuzhou. "Dongyuandiping" is the beginning of Dongping.
In the Western Zhou Dynasty, there were suju, Zhang, Su and other vassal states. In the spring and Autumn period, xuju belonged to Lu, Zhang to Qi, and Su to song. During the Warring States period, Zhang and Su were the salt free cities of Qi.
In the Qin Dynasty, Xuchang County (governing buzipo), Wuyan county (governing Wuyan Village) and Zhang county (governing huozhuang Village) were established, belonging to Xue county.
In the Western Han Dynasty, Fucheng county and Zhangxian county were added, and they successively belonged to Liang state, Jidong state, Dahe county and Dongping state Xuchang and Shouliang counties belonged to Dongjun.
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Xuchang, Wuyan, Shouzhang, Fucheng and Zhangxian belonged to the state of Dongping.
In the Wei Dynasty of the Three Kingdoms, Zhang county was withdrawn, and the other four counties belonged to the Dongping state.
In the Western Jin Dynasty, Dongping moved to Xuchang city. In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the state of Dongping was changed to Dongping county (the county ruled Suzhou). Four counties in Jin Dynasty followed.
In the northern and Southern Dynasties, the subordination remained unchanged. In the Southern Song Dynasty, Fucheng was withdrawn, and in the Northern Wei Dynasty, it was restored. In the Northern Qi Dynasty, Fucheng County abandoned the system and merged into Xuchang County without salt. In the Northern Zhou Dynasty, Xuchang and Shouzhang counties belonged to Luzhou.
In Sui Dynasty, Shouzhang County governed Shouzhang collection, belonging to Jibei county. In the 16th year of kaihuang (596), Xuchang County was moved back to its original rule, and Sucheng county was established as the former salt free county. The two counties of Xuchang and Suzhou belong to Yunzhou.
In the Tang Dynasty, Xuchang, Sucheng and Shouzhang belonged to Yunzhou. Yunzhou successively served as the governor of Pinglu and Tianping armies. In the first year of Tang Zhenguan (627), Suzhou was merged into Xuchang County. In the first year of Jinglong (707), Sucheng county was restored. In 788 (the fourth year of Zhenyuan), the name of Sucheng county was changed to Dongping County, which was attached to Guojun with Xuchang. This is the beginning of the name of Dongping county. In 830, Dongping county was changed into Tianping county. Taihe six years (832), the withdrawal of Tianping County into Xuchang County.
In the Five Dynasties, Xuchang and Shouzhang counties belonged to Yunzhou. In 923, Xuchang was changed into Xucheng county.
In the Song Dynasty, it belonged to the Five Dynasties. In the third year of the Song Dynasty (997), a pacifier was set up in Yunzhou (Xucheng). In the third year of Xianping (1000), Yunzhou was destroyed by the river, and the city was submerged, so the state and county were moved to the Wuli plain in front of Wuling Mountain. In the first year of Xuanhe (1119), Yunzhou was changed into Dongping prefecture (Zhixu city).
In 1128, Liu Yu was appointed emperor of the "great Qi". He first ruled Daming, then moved to Xucheng and pretended to be Tokyo. Xucheng is the first city of Shandong West Road. Xucheng county and Shouzhang county are still Dongping prefecture (Zhixu city).
In Yuan Dynasty, Xucheng and Shouzhang belonged to Dongping Road, and Xucheng was the road city.
In the early Ming Dynasty, Xucheng was governed by Dongping Prefecture, and shouzhangyan belonged to it. In 1370, Shouzhang county was divided into Xucheng county and Yanggu County. In the eighth year of Hongwu (1375), Dongping Prefecture was reduced to prefecture. In the same year, Xucheng county was withdrawn and merged into Dongping Prefecture, belonging to Jining Prefecture. Hongwu 13 years (1380), the restoration of Shouzhang County in wanglingdian (now Taiqian County), began to leave the territory. In the 18th year of Hongwu (1385), Dongping Prefecture was changed to Yanzhou Prefecture. In the Ming Dynasty, Dongping Prefecture governed five counties, namely, Wenshang County, Donga County, Pingyin County, Yanggu County and Shouzhang county.
In the early Qing Dynasty, Dongping Prefecture still belonged to Yanzhou Prefecture. In 1730, Dongping Prefecture was promoted to Zhili Prefecture, and four counties including donga, Pingyin, Yanggu and Shouzhang were under its jurisdiction. In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Dongping Prefecture was changed to Dongping County, and its governing place was jixidao (in Liaocheng). In June 1941, it was the first special office of Hebei, Shandong and Henan. In July 1942, it was transferred to the second special office of Hebei, Shandong and Henan.
In May 1945, Dongping was liberated, belonging to the eighth special office of Hebei, Shandong and Henan. In July 1947, it was the seventh special office of Hebei, Shandong and Henan. In May 1948, it returned to Taixi special office.
In May 1950, it belonged to Tai'an special office.
In December 1958, Pingyin County was merged into Dongping County, belonging to Liaocheng special office.
In August 1959, it was transferred to Jinan City. In October of the same year, Dongping county was abolished and Pingyin County was restored.
On January 1, 1962, the organizational system of Dongping county was restored to Taian special office.
In August 1985, Tai'an area was changed to Tai'an City, and Dongping county was under the control.

In June 2010, with the approval of the provincial government, Dongping Town, Zhoucheng Town, Jieshan Township, Dayang Township and timen Township were abolished, and Dongping sub district office, Zhoucheng sub district office, Jieshan Town, Dayang town and timen town were established.

The plain is mainly distributed in the southern region, belonging to the Dawenhe alluvial plain, with a ground elevation of more than 40 meters. Most of the soil layers are deep and the soil configuration is good, which is suitable for agricultural cultivation.
The depressions are mainly distributed in Dongping Lake area. The west side of the area is the Yellow River, and the east side is the flood detention area of Benping lake, which belongs to the Yellow River alluvial plain. Except for a few isolated hills and residual hills such as Lashan, Kunshan and Mashan, the rest are Lake depressions with the ground height below 40 meters. The lowest point is near Xuanchang, Xinhu Township, with an altitude of 1236.7 meters.

Dongping county is located in the north of the southwest plain of Shandong Province. The eastern part of the county is blocked by the middle mountain area of Shandong Province, and the territory is affected by the monsoon. It has four distinct seasons. In spring (March to May), cold and warm air masses confront each other, advance and retreat indefinitely, suddenly cold and hot, prevailing southeast wind, dry climate and rapid warming. In summer (June to August), it is hot and rainy, high temperature and humidity, concentrated precipitation, and often rainstorm and waterlogging.
