Xiangqiao District Xiangqiao District, subordinate to Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province, is the central urban area of Chaozhou City. It is located in the middle and lower reaches of Hanjiang River. It is named after "xiangziqiao", one of the four ancient bridges in China, with a total area of 325.35 square kilometers. Xiangqiao district was established in December 1991. On June 28, 2013, with the approval of the State Council of the people's Republic of China, the three towns of Yuxi Town, Guantang town and Tiepu town of Chaoan County were under the jurisdiction of Xiangqiao District of Chaozhou City. Xiangqiao district is the core area of Chaozhou culture and a famous national historical and cultural city. It is known as "zoulu on the seashore", "a famous nation in the territorial sea" and "the first city in the east of the five ridges". Today Xiangqiao district belongs to Nanhai County in Qin Dynasty and Jieyang County in Han Dynasty.
The sixth year of Xianhe (331) in the Eastern Jin Dynasty was divided into Nanhai county and Dongguan county. Jieyang was set up in Haiyang County, which belongs to Dongguan county. Xiangqiao area belongs to Haiyang county.
In the ninth year of Yixi (413) of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Yian county was established as the eastern official Prefecture, and the Xiangqiao area belonged to Haiyang county. Liang Zhidong Yangzhou, later renamed Yingzhou, Xiangqiao area belongs to Yian County of Yingzhou.
In 590, Yi'an county was abolished, and Haiyang county was set up in Yi'an county. Xiangqiao belongs to Yi'an county. In 591, Chaozhou was established in Yi'an county. From Tang Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, Xiangqiao belongs to Haiyang County of Chaozhou.
In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), because of the same name as Haiyang County in Shandong Province, Haiyang was changed to Chao'an and Xiangqiao belonged to it. In October 1930, Chaoan County was divided into eight districts. Today Xiangqiao is the first district (Zhongshan District). It governs eight towns of Changrong, Renxian, Lihe, Gede, Dongguan, Xiguan, Nanguan and Beiguan, and two townships of Nanxiang and BEIXIANG. Today, Yixi town was the third district (Rongyi District). In 1940, Chaoan implemented the new county system, merging the original eight districts into five districts. Today Xiangqiao is under the jurisdiction of Chaoan County Government, including Lihe Town, Gede Town, Changren Town, Dongguan town, Xiguan Town, Nanguan Town, Beiguan Town, Nanxiang Township and BEIXIANG township. Yixi town still belongs to the third district. In January 1946, Chaoan County was downsized into 20 townships and towns. Today Xiangqiao area is the whole town (including Changren Town, Lihe Town, Gede town and Dongguan town) and the part of Nanxiang Township and Xixiang township. At this time, Yixi was an independent Yixi township. In 1949, Chaozhou settled in eight districts. Xiangqiao district was the whole of Fucheng District and part of Renhe district and Rongyi district.
In the early days of the founding of new China, the administrative divisions and names of Chao'an still followed the old system. In 1950, the original eight districts of Chao'an were changed into the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth (districts) in sequence, and now the urban area and suburbs of Xiangqiao are the first district; in July of the same year, it was changed into Chengguan Town, with 10 offices in Qiaodong, Xiguan, Nanguan, Beiguan, the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth; Yixi is the third district. In January 1953, Chengguan Town, Yixi town and Xiasi Township and gonghou village on the outskirts of Chengguan town were set up from Chaoan County. In July of the same year, they were renamed Chaozhou City, which was under the jurisdiction of the province. It governs Tangping street, Xihu street, the third street, the Fourth Street, the Fifth Street, the Sixth Street and the seventh street. Today, except Dongpu village, Fengxin street belongs to the Second District of Chao'an, most of it belongs to the first district of Chao'an. In May 1955, the names of seven streets in Chaozhou City were changed according to their place names: Tangping, Xihu, Beima, Taiping, nanchun, Qiaodong street and Yixi town.
In January 1956, the Sixth Street (Yixi) was abolished and put under the jurisdiction of Chaoan County; Shazhou Township and Jijie township of Chaoan County were put under the jurisdiction of Chaozhou City. Chaozhou City governs Tangping street, Xihu street, the third street, the Fourth Street, the fifth street and the seventh street.
In November 1958, the organizational system of Chaozhou City was abolished, and the former administrative region was changed into Chengguan Town People's commune, which has jurisdiction over Xiangqiao, Xihu, Jinshan, Taiping and nanchun.
In July 1959, the people's commune of Chengguan town was changed into Chaozhou Town (county level, subordinate to Chaoan County).
In September 1960, five administrative areas of Chaozhou Town were renamed branch offices. In 1976, the five branches (administrative areas) of Chaozhou Town were renamed the first, second, third, fourth and fifth streets respectively.
In 1980, Chaozhou City was separated from Chaoan County, and its organizational system was restored to Shantou. It is under the jurisdiction of the former suburban commune of Chaozhou Town and Chaoan County, Xiajin brigade of Yixi commune, and four brigades of woshi, Sheguang, liumu and huangjintang of phosphorus River commune. In July 1983, Chaoan County was incorporated into Chaozhou City. In 1984, seven streets in Chaozhou city changed their names: the first street was renamed Xiangqiao street, the Second Street Xihu street, the Third Street Jinshan street, the Fourth Street Taiping Street, the Fifth Street nanchun street, the Sixth Street Xixin street, and the seventh street Qiaodong street. Xixin street was established in May of the same year from Xihu street. In January 1987, Chengxi district was changed into Chengxi street.
In January 1989, Chaozhou City was under the direct leadership of the province and enjoyed the authority of economic management at the city (prefecture) level. In January 1990, Chaozhou was designated as a sub prefecture level city.
In December 1991, Chaozhou City was upgraded and expanded into the new Xiangqiao district and the newly restored Chaoan County.
Xiangqiao district was officially opened on April 23, 1992. In May 1992, Fengxin street was set up in Fengxi Town, Chaoan County, with 13 administrative areas including Chenqiao, Fengshan, Huayuan, Daxin Township and Dongpu administrative area of Guxiang Town. So far, Xiangqiao district has nine streets including Xiangqiao, Xihu, Jinshan, Taiping, nanchun, Xixin, Qiaodong, Chengxi and Fengxin, and one town in Yixi.
On June 28, 2013, with the approval of the State Council, the three towns in Chao'an county (changed to Chao'an District in July 2013) were put under the jurisdiction of Xiangqiao District, Chaozhou City.
