Hongjiang Administrative Region Hongjiang administrative region is a county-level administrative region of Huaihua City, Hunan Province, which is usually referred to as Hongjiang District. It is not a county-level administrative region established by the Ministry of civil affairs. Its administrative region still belongs to Hongjiang City at the county level, which is under the direct jurisdiction of Huaihua City at the prefecture level. Its administrative organ is called Hongjiang District Management Committee, which is an agency of Huaihua people's government rather than an independent government.
Hongjiang management area is located in Xuefeng mountain area in Southwest Hunan Province, 110 ° 00'e, 27 ° 11'n. it is located in the bridgehead of the strategy of the rise of central China and the development of Western China. It is the old industrial base of Huaihua City. For hundreds of years since the Ming Dynasty, it has been an important commercial port in Southwest Hunan. It is famous for its distribution of Hongyou, wood, opium and white wax. It is known as "the thoroughfare of seven provinces", "little Nanjing", "little Chongqing" and "the Pearl of Western Hunan". It was once the political, military, economic, religious and cultural center of Southwest Hunan.
Hongjiang administrative region is adjacent to Hongjiang City (Qianyang County) in the East, West and North, and Huitong County in the south, with a total area of 114.45 square kilometers. It governs 4 streets and 2 townships. As of 2018, the permanent resident population of the region is 68700, of which the Han nationality accounts for 97% of the total population, and the rest are Miao, Yao, Dong, Hui, Tujia and other ethnic minorities. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of areas with remarkable achievements in real work in 2020 announced by Hunan Provincial People's government.
Historical evolution
Ancient times
According to the unearthed cultural relics, human activities existed in Hongjiang area as early as the Neolithic age.
During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, it was in the middle of Chu and Guizhou. Qin belongs to Qianzhong county.
In the early Western Han Dynasty, Tancheng county was established, and Hongjiang was the site of Tancheng County in Wuling county.
In the southern and Northern Dynasties, it belonged to Wuyang County of Wuling County in song and Qi dynasties; in the Liang Dynasty, it belonged to Longbiao County of Nanyang County; in the Sui Dynasty, it belonged to Wuyang county.
In the eighth year of Zhenguan (634), Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty set up Longbiao in Langxi County, and Hongjiang was changed to Langxi County.
At the beginning of the Five Dynasties, the Hongjiang area was occupied by the minorities.
In 1075, hongjiangpu was set up; in 1090, hongjiangzhai was renamed as Qianyang County of Yuanzhou; in 1103, Hongjiang was subordinate to Sanjiang County of Jingzhou, which was changed to Huitong County.
Hongjiang village was abandoned in 1271, and Hongjiang inspection department was established in 1297.
During the Hongwu Period of Ming Dynasty (1368-1398), Hongjiang post was set up and still belonged to Huitong County.
In 1687, Ruoshui Inspection Department of Huitong County moved to Hongjiang; in 1751, Ruoshui inspection department was renamed Hongjiang inspection department.

At the beginning of the Republic of China, it was called Hongjiang town.
In 1924, it was called Hongjiang City in Huitong County.
In 1931, it was changed into the Fourth District of Huitong County, with jurisdiction over 23 townships.
In 1933, it was changed to Hongjiang Town, Huitong County. After that, it successively became the seat of the Fourth District security command of Hunan Province, the seventh district administrative inspector's office and security command of Hunan Province, the Tenth District administrative inspector's office and security command of Hunan Province, and Hongjiang administrative office of Hunan Province.
New China period
On October 4, 1949, Hongjiang was liberated. On November 1 of the same year, Hongjiang City, Huitong County was built.
In March 1950, it was changed to Hongjiang Town, Huitong County. On October 19 of the same year, it was changed into a special office in Hongjiang City.
In 1953, Hongjiang City was reduced to Hongjiang Town, subordinate to Qianyang County. In September of the same year, it was changed to Hongjiang City, Hunan Province.
In December 1958, it was changed to Hongjiang City, Qianyang County.
In July 1961, it was changed into Qianyang special office in Hongjiang City.
In May 1963, it was changed to Hongjiang town of Qianyang County.
On September 12, 1979, the organizational system of Hongjiang City was restored and it was subordinate to Qianyang area of Hunan Province. In 1981, it was changed to Huaihua area.
In November 1997, it merged with Qianyang County to form a new Hongjiang City, which is subordinate to Huaihua City.
In September 1999, the urban area was divided into Hongjiang District of Hongjiang City.
In May 2002, it was changed into Hongjiang administrative district of Huaihua City, under the direct leadership of Huaihua City. The relationship between administrative divisions still belongs to Hongjiang City.

Hongjiang management area is mainly mountainous, accounting for 74.1% of the total area. The territory is close to mountains and water, similar to the "chicken shape". The terrain inclines from East, South and west to north, with Yunwu Mountain in the middle as the highest point in the region, with an altitude of 894 meters. The most famous peaks in the territory are Jiaoyan mountain, dafengpo, laoyapo, miyanjian, songyun mountain, etc., with an altitude of 170-894 meters. Timber forests and bamboo forests are mostly concentrated in the middle mountainous areas, including four villages in Hengyan Township and Tiexi village in guihuayuan township. The forest coverage rate of the whole region is 53.8%, of which Hengyan township is as high as 75%.

The average temperature of the coldest January is about 5.6 ℃, and the extreme minimum temperature is - 9.2 ℃; the average temperature of the hottest July is 27.7 ℃, and the extreme maximum temperature is 39.6 ℃. The annual average frost free period is 304 days. There is no severe heat in summer and cold in winter. The four seasons are distinct. The annual average rainfall is about 1485mm. The rainy season is from April to August, accounting for 42% of the whole year. The annual average sunshine time is 1354.3 hours, accounting for 30.25% of the sunshine hours.
