Meigu county is under the jurisdiction of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is located in the southwest of Sichuan Province and the northeast of Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, at the West foot of huangmaogeng of Daliang Mountain. It is between 102 ° 53 ′ - 103 ° 21 ′ E and 28 ° 02 ′ - 28 ° 54 ′ n. The county borders Leibo County in the East, Yuexi County in the west, Zhaojue County in the south, Ebian Yi Autonomous County in the north, Ganluo County in the northwest and Mabian Yi Autonomous County in the northeast.

In November 2020, the people's Government of Sichuan Province approved Meigu county to withdraw from the poverty-stricken county sequence. In September 2016, the State Council approved the new Meigu County as a national key ecological function area. On September 25, 2018, it won the honorary title of "2018 e-commerce into rural comprehensive demonstration county" of the Ministry of Commerce.
Historical evolution
Liangshan Yi people were generally known as "Southwest Yi" in ancient times and "therefore qiongdu country". From the spring and Autumn period, Qin Dynasty to the early Han Dynasty, Meigu belonged to qiongdu. In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 B.C.) of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty, qiongdu was a county of yue'an, which set up Beishui County on the Bank of Meigu River and governed Meigu area.
In Eastern Han Dynasty, Shu Han Dynasty, Jin Dynasty and Liu Song Dynasty (25-479), Beishui county still belonged to Yue county.
During the Qi and Liang dynasties, from the first year of Jianyuan to the fourth year of Jianyuan (479-482), Emperor Gao changed Yueyu County into yueyiliao county and abandoned Beishui county. Meigu belongs to yuemianliao county.

From the first year of Emperor Wen's Dabao in the bamboo slips of Liang Dynasty to the second year of emperor Yongding in Chengwu Dynasty (550-568), Qiongzhou was abandoned.
In the third year of the reign of Emperor Wu of the Northern Zhou Dynasty (568), Xining Prefecture was established and soon changed to Yanzhou. Meigu Prefecture belongs to Yanzhou.
In 586, Yanzhou was changed into Xining and Yueyu county was set up.
Kaihuang eighteen years (598) to Xining state for state. Meigu is under the jurisdiction of Yueyu county.
In the third year of Daye (607) of Sui Yang emperor, Yue Zhou was abolished and Yue county was established. Meigu was subordinate to Yue county. In the first year of Wude (618), Emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty changed Yue County into Yue State. Meigu is under the jurisdiction of Yueyu county.
In the second year of Xiantong (861) of Yizong of Tang Dynasty, Chou was under Nanzhao, the local government, and set up Jianchang Prefecture. Meigu was subordinate to Jianchang Prefecture,
From the 14th year of Xiantong (873) to the end of Song Dynasty, Meigu was under the jurisdiction of Adu tribe and Shama tribe of Yi nationality.
In 1275, the 12th year of the Yuan Dynasty from the emperor Shizu to the Yuan Dynasty, Jianchang Prefecture was set up as Zongguan Prefecture and Jianchang Road, and Lizhou was set up. Meigu was subordinate to Lizhou, originally Sichuan, and later Yunnan.
In the early Ming Dynasty, the chieftain system was still implemented in the southwest minority areas following the yuan system.
Hongwu 15 years (1382), set up Changwei command department, Meigu is still under the state.
In the 27th year of Hongwu (1394), Liangshan Yibu was set up in the hinterland of Liangshan. In abandoned Lizhou, Meigu belonged to Liangshan Yibu, which was under the jurisdiction of Lili chieftain and Shama chieftain respectively.
In 1728, Changfu was rebuilt into Ningyuan Prefecture, and three counties, Xichang, Mianning and Yanyuan, were set up. Meigu belonged to Xichang County, Ningyuan Prefecture.
During the period of Qianlong and Jiaqing (1736-1820) in Qing Dynasty, the chieftains of Lili, Shama and azhuo were expelled from Meigu area by the Black Yi branch.
In 1910, Zhaojue County was added to Xichang county. Most of Meigu belonged to Zhaojue County, and a small part was under the jurisdiction of Mabian and Leibo counties. In fact, it is an area under the separatist rule of the Hei Yi branch.
During the period of the Republic of China (1911-1949), Meigu actually had no administrative organization. It is under the jurisdiction of ahou, ALU, suga, Enza, Gan, mupo, Ma, Hailai, moshuo, azhi, shepei, azhuo, ASU, sheluo and jijue.
On April 22, 1951, the people's Government of Zhaojue Yi Autonomous Region was established, which is subordinate to Xichang District Commissioner's office of Xikang province. Most areas of Meigu are under the jurisdiction of Zhaojue County, and some areas are under the jurisdiction of Leibo and Mabian counties.
On April 30, 1952, the Government Affairs Council of the Central People's Government approved the establishment of Meigu county. The county administration office, niuniuba, was subordinate to the administrative office of Xichang District Commissioner of Xikang province. In August of that year, Jiagu was set up in the county administration.
On May 24, 1956, with the approval of the State Council, Hongxi county was established. The county administration was based on guojue and was subordinate to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture.
In June 1959, Hongxi county was merged into Meigu County, and the county office was moved to BAPU, which is subordinate to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province.
In 1990, Meigu county still belonged to Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province.
