Dingcheng District, belonging to Changde City, Hunan Province, formerly known as Changde county and Langzhou in ancient times, is located on the West Bank of Dongting Lake in the beautiful south of the Yangtze River. Since the Qin Dynasty established the county, it has a history of more than 2200 years, and the county government is the state, county and government. The terrain is mainly plain and hilly land, of which plain accounts for 50% and hilly land 40%. The total area of the region is 2344 square kilometers, including 1.169 million mu of cultivated land, 80000 mu of lakes and 1.07 million mu of mountain forests. The output of grain, cotton, oil and pigs ranked among the top 100 in China, and the output of cotton, eggs, poultry, aquatic products and fruits ranked among the top in Hunan Province.
Daxi Culture, Longshan culture, Qujialing culture and Zaoshi culture sites have been found many times in the area. The old city of Yuannan, the old city of Hanshou and the old city of songding are still in the Eastern Han Dynasty. With the northern immigrants moving to the South twice, the Central Plains culture and Huxiang culture mingled with each other, which made Dingcheng "a nation of cultural relics" with many places of interest. There are laigong Ganquan, Hehu Xiangyu, Longmen ancient cave, Yangshan Xiongzhi, Tianzi Yigang, Jinxia Xizhao, Canglang Xianshan, Huaxi Xianchi and other places of interest.
In 2017, Dingcheng District achieved a GDP of 30.9 billion yuan, an increase of 9%. In March 2019, it will be listed in the first batch of counties for the protection and utilization of revolutionary cultural relics. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of areas with remarkable achievements in real work in 2020 announced by Hunan Provincial People's government.
Evolution of organizational system
Dingcheng District has the names of Linyuan County, Jianyuan County, Suo County, Hanshou County, Wushou County, Yuannan County, Wuling county and Changde County in history. It successively belongs to Qianzhong County, Wuling County, Yiling County, Jianping County, Wuzhou, Yuanzhou, Songzhou, Langzhou, wuzhenjun, Yongshun army, Wushun army, wupingjun, Dingzhou, changdejun, changdelu, changdefu, wulingdao, Changde special office Changde City and other administrative organs above county level.
During the reign of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221-210 BC), there were 36 counties in the world, and Changde belonged to Qianzhong county. Linyuan county was built in Qianzhong County, which was the beginning of the county establishment.
In the fifth year of emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty (202 BC), Suo county was set up in the east of Linyuan county.
In the first year of Xinmang (AD 9), Linyuan county was renamed Jianyuan county.
Jianwu six years of the Eastern Han Dynasty (30), Jianyuan county again called Linyuan county. Jianwu 26 years (50), in Linyuan County South Branch Yuannan county. In 134, Suo county was renamed Hanshou County.
In the 11th year of Wu chiwu (248), Hanshou County was changed into Wushou county.

In the third year of kaihuang reign of Sui Dynasty (583), Wuling county was located in Linyuan County, Yuannan county and Hanshou County. This is the beginning of Wuling county.
In October of the third year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty (1911), the county was cut down and left in Changde Prefecture.
In October 1913, Wuling county was renamed Changde county. The name of Changde county began from then on. The county is under the jurisdiction of Wuling road in Hunan Province.
On April 18, 1988, the people's Government of Hunan Province, in accordance with the spirit of the State Council's (1988) No. 18 letter, issued the xiangzhenghan (1988) No. 22 document and renamed Changde County Dingcheng District of Changde City. On June 9 of the same year, the third session of the 10th people's Congress of Changde County passed the resolution on renaming state organs after Changde county was changed into Dingcheng District of Changde City. The transformation of counties into districts is now complete.

The terrain of Dingcheng District inclines from southwest to northeast, from mountains, hills and hills to broad lakeside plain. In the south, there are many mountains, such as Chajiao, Jiulong, Cangshan, Gucheng and Pangu. In the northwest, there are the sun, white clouds and other mountains of Wuling Mountain, with steep cliffs. In the west, South and North, the mountains fluctuate and the hills are encircled; in the northeast, the lakes and rivers are connected and the land and water are staggered. The Yuan River in the central part of the area is curved and divided into North and south parts. In the south, it is commonly known as "Qianhe" and "Qianxiang". The two rivers meander down, forming a number of chasms and Plains along the river. The northern part is commonly known as "Houhe" and "Houxiang". The Lishui river flows eastward around the northeast border of the region into Dongting Lake, in which the rivers of Jianshui, chongliu and Majia flow, and the lakes of cow dung, Angelica dahurica and tuxiao are dotted.
The highest point of Dingcheng District is chajiaoshan (also known as chajiaodian), the main peak of which is chahualing, with an altitude of 716.2 meters; the terrain on both sides of Yuan River and west of Li River is low and flat, with an altitude of about 30 meters. The elevation difference of Dingcheng District is 686.2m, and the slope rate is 1.5%.

The whole area is located in the monsoon humid climate zone of the transition from the middle subtropical zone to the north subtropical zone, with continental climate as the main and humid lakeside climate. It is characterized by cold winter and hot summer, four distinct seasons, abundant heat and concentrated rain, changeable spring temperature and drought in summer and autumn, short cold period and long hot summer period.

Most of Dingcheng is located in the alluvial plain of Dongting Lake, which is rich in grain, cotton, oil and other crop resources, as well as large reserves of gold, diamond, limestone, kaolin and other mineral resources.

In November 1995, Dingcheng District was withdrawn and merged with the township. The nine offices of Haozi port, Shigongqiao, Dalong station, hejifu, Niubitan, Doumu lake, Shimenqiao, huangtudian and gangerkou were cancelled. Ten towns of Wuling, haozigang, zhonghekou, shimeitang, zhendeqiao, Niubitan, guanxi, caijiagang, Doumuhu, huangtudian, and 17 Hui and Uygur nationality townships of Huangzhuzhou, Heishanzui, dalongzhan, Shuangqiaoping, changlinggang, Shibantan, leigongmiao, Dingjiagang, Caoping, tangjiapu, Cangshan, Qianjiaping, gangerkou, yaotianping, changmaoling and xujiaqiao are reserved Township. In May 1996, 12 villages in xiejiapu Town, including libaochong, shuangyantang, yuanpu'an, jiulong'an, bujialing, Daping, zhaojiaqiao, Shizishan, houshuchong, Luohanshan, wujiapu and hujiaqiao, were assigned to Shimenqiao town; group 1 of Lijiaqiao village in zhoujiadian town and fuguipo village in dalongzhan Township, were assigned to District Horticultural Farm; and three villages in Hangongdu Town, Xianfeng, Wujia and Fuxing, were assigned to Changde special horticultural farm General farm. Meanwhile, dalongzhan Township and yaotianping Township were abolished and dalongzhan town and yaotianping town were established.
In September 1996, Shuangqiaoping township was abolished and Shuangqiaoping Town was established.
In December 1997, leigongmiao township was abolished and leigongmiao town was established.
In May 1998, Shibantan township was abolished and Shibantan town was established. In December of the same year, quanshuidong formation in gaoyantang village of nijiangping township was assigned to Huayanxi tourist resort.
