Canal District Canal District, belonging to Cangzhou City, Hebei Province, is also the seat of Cangzhou municipal government. It is named after the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal which runs through the whole territory. Canal District is located in the west of Cangzhou City, with a total area of 117.7 square kilometers and a population of 309000 (2013). It governs one Township, one town, six sub district offices, 63 administrative villages and 51 communities.
The Canal District is bounded by Qingchi Avenue in the East, adjacent to Xinhua District, Cangxian County in the South and West, and Qingxian County in the north. It is 200 kilometers away from Beijing, 100 kilometers away from Tianjin, and 220 kilometers away from Shijiazhuang and Jinan.
In 2011, the gross domestic product (GDP) of the canal area was 17.34 billion yuan.
Canal District is an important transportation hub of Cangzhou City, where Beijing Shanghai high speed railway Cangzhou west station is set up; Beijing Shanghai Expressway, Huangshi Expressway and national highway 307 pass through.
Evolution of organizational system
In 1958, the area under the jurisdiction of Cangxian Chengguan commune Chengguan Management Area and Nanguan management area.
On June 1, 1961, Cangzhou City was established on the basis of Chengguan commune. The southern part of the area is under the jurisdiction of Nandajie commune and the northern part is under the jurisdiction of Xinhua Road commune.
On March 6, 1980, three districts, Xinhua, Yunhe and suburban, were set up in Cangzhou City. Because the famous canal meanders through the city, it is called "Yunhe district".
On May 7, 1980, the preparatory group of Yunhe district was established. The party and mass departments worked in the original site of Nandajie commune. The government and later the people's Congress departments worked in the South courtyard of the municipal reception office, and immediately set up six sub district offices.
In 1981, the place names were standardized, and the office names were set as: Xihuan middle street sub district office, Nanhuan middle road sub district office, Shuiyuesi Street sub district office, Shichang sub district office, Gongshu sub district office and Nanhu sub district office.
In October 1985, the office building of the district government was built and put into use in the south of Shunhe primary school. In January 1989, it was moved to 225 Shuiyuesi street.
On November 7, 1997, in the suburb of Cangzhou City, two towns, chentun Township in the South (excluding Wangxilu Village) and Xiaowangzhuang township (excluding Sanli and zhaojiafen village in the North), were abolished, and 83 villages were merged into the Canal District.
In 2000, the Canal District was divided into six streets, namely Shuiyue temple, market, park, Nanhu, Xihuan and Nanhuan, Xiaowangzhuang town and nanchentun township.
On March 20, 2002, the community management system was reformed. The original 53 neighborhood committees were merged into 39 community neighborhood committees, and 18 non-agricultural villages in the original urban area were incorporated into the corresponding community neighborhood committees.
In 2008, the district government relocated due to urban construction in Cangzhou, and its office address was changed to No. 26, Guangrong road.
