Historical evolution
origin
There are different opinions about the name of Yuyao. It is said in Fengtu Ji that the land granted by Shun Wenshu was named Yuyao because of his surname Yao. On the other hand, according to yuejueshu, Xia Shaokang was granted less than Wuyu in Kuaiji, and Yao was named Yuyao because of Fengyu. According to Guo Pu's annotation in Shanhaijing, Yushan is in the south of Yuyao County in Kuaiji and in the north of jurzhang county. Therefore, the two counties are named Yun. This is the third way of saying. There is another saying, "there is a mountain in the city, and there is Yaojiang River in the South", so it is named. Another thing to say is that the Ming Dynasty's "explanation of the names of prefectures and counties" said that the county belonged to Kuaiji, and there was the surname Yao in the west of Yuyao mountain and the east of the river, so it was called Yuyao. Recently, some people claim that Yuyao is a place name of Yue language, and its meaning is unknown.
