Shangcai County, located in the southeast of Henan Province, belongs to Zhumadian City. It is 60 kilometers long from east to west, with a total area of 1529 square kilometers and a total population of about 1.56 million (2016). It is a plain agricultural county.
Shangcai County is the seat of ancient Cai state, the hometown of Qin Prime Minister Lisi and Han Prime Minister Zhai Fangjin, and the birthplace of "Chongyang culture". Eight scenes of ancient Cai have been listed as the national key protected places of interest. In 1995, it was designated as a historical and cultural landscape tourism development zone.
On January 25, 2019, it was selected as the national "safe agricultural machinery" Demonstration County in 2018. In November 2019, it will be selected as the second batch of counties (districts) that meet the water-saving society construction standards. On February 26, 2020, the people's Government of Henan Province approved Shangcai County to withdraw from poverty-stricken county, officially lifting its hat. Historical evolution
The recorded history of Shangcai began in the early Western Zhou Dynasty, about 3000 years ago.
Fuxi, the ancestor of human beings, painted hexagrams on the Bank of the Caihe river because yarrow was born in caidi. In the 11th century B.C., King Wu of Zhou granted his younger brother Shu du to CAI and established the state of CAI. He took the state as his surname and passed it on to 18 generations for nearly 500 years. He was known as Shangcai in history. Later, he was repeatedly invaded by the state of Chu and moved his capital to Xincai. Later, he moved to zhoulai (now Fengtai in Anhui Province) and changed zhoulai to Xiacai.
Qin set up Shangcai County here. In the early Han Dynasty, it was the seat of Runan County. In the Southern Dynasties, the Song Dynasty was moved to the city of Dong, and its former site is in today's Runan. In the second year of Shengui in the Northern Wei Dynasty (519), Linru county was set up and abolished in the Northern Qi Dynasty; in the sixth year of kaihuang in the Sui Dynasty (586), Wujin County was set up; in dayejian, Shangcai was set up again, and Linru and Wujin were successively added, so the name of Shangcai did not change. It belonged to Runan County in Sui Dynasty, caizhou in Tang Dynasty and caizhou from Yuan Dynasty to Ming and Qing Dynasty. At the beginning of the Republic of China, it belonged to Ruyang road. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it belonged to Xinyang District, and changed to Zhumadian District in 1965.

The whole county is flat with deep soil layer. There are 10 rivers (another 4 seasonal intermittent rivers) in the county, which belong to the two water systems of Hongru River and Shaying River, all of which belong to the Huaihe River Basin.
The geological structure of Shangcai County belongs to the Zhoukou basin of the Hehuai platform, with flat terrain. Only the western part of the county is affected by the Funiu Mountains, forming a Nanbei gangling belt, known as Lugang in history, commonly known as WoLonggang. WoLonggang is more than 20 kilometers long from north to South and 5 kilometers wide from east to west. It is a shallow hill, from which the whole county slopes to the East and West. The highest altitude of WoLonggang is 99 meters, and the rest are between 41 and 53 meters.

Shangcai County is rich in wheat, corn, soybean, cotton, sorghum, sesame, rape, tobacco and so on. It is a national high-quality wheat planting base county. The output of grain has ranked among the top 100 in China. Sesame has a large planting area, high yield and good quality. Yuexiang brand mill oil is sold all over the country.
