Xixia County Xixia County is a county under the jurisdiction of Nanyang City in Henan Province. It is located in the southwest of Henan Province, at the south foot of Funiu Mountain, bordering Shangluo City in Shaanxi Province in the west, Sanmenxia City and Luoyang City in the north, Neixiang city in the East and Xichuan city in the South. It is the second largest county in Henan Province. It has jurisdiction over 2 townships, 14 towns, 3 offices, 299 administrative villages (community neighborhood committees), with a total population of 450000 in 2016.
Xixia is the birthplace of Chinese Chongyang culture. Five thousand years ago, there were communities in Xixia. In the early years of the Western Zhou Dynasty, it was a dependency of the ancient Ruo state, and was set as Baiyu city. From 524 BC to 506 BC, it was the capital of the state of Xu, and the county of Xi was set up in the Qin Dynasty. Xixiakou town was established in late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, and Xixia County was established in 1948. Xixia is Qu Yuan's hometown, the main remains of Qu Yuan's culture and the place where Qu Yuan's story of "bucking horses to admonish the king" took place.
Xixia County has successively won the honorary titles of "national civilized county", "national health county" and "National Garden County". In 2009, Xixia County was awarded "hometown of dinosaurs in China" by the National Geological Bureau. In 2014, Xixia County was announced as "National Tourism standardization demonstration county" by the National Tourism Administration. Historical evolution
In the early years of the Western Zhou Dynasty, it was a dependency of the ancient state of Chu. Later, it became the Baiyu city of Danyang, the capital of the state of Chu.
From 524 BC to 506 BC, it was the capital of Xu state. Qin and Han Dynasty set up Xi county, which extended to the south of Xichuan County.
In the Western Wei Dynasty, Zhongxiang county was established in this region.
In Sui Dynasty, Zhongxiang was changed into Neixiang.
In the 24th year of Kaiyuan (736) of Tang Dynasty, Neixiang and Jutan counties were set up in Xixia.
In the third year of Xiande (956) of the Zhou Dynasty, Jutan was abandoned and entered Neixiang. The county was extended from Xixia to Neixiang County. From Qin Dynasty to Jin Dynasty, the county government was in Xixia County.
In the early Yuan Dynasty, the county government was moved from Xixia County to Zhuyang town (now Neixiang County). The original county was renamed Xiakou town and the inspection department was set up.
Ming and Qing Dynasties followed the old system.
In the Republic of China, the inspection department was abolished, and Xixia was divided into districts (towns) and townships. It was still under Neixiang County, and Wanxi autonomy was implemented in 1930.
On May 6, 1948, Xixia was liberated and separated from Neixiang to establish Xixia County.
In January 1949, Xixia County was abolished and merged into Neixiang. In December of the same year, Xixia County was rebuilt, including Xiping District of Xichuan County.
Xixia is located in the hinterland of Funiu Mountain, with a forest coverage rate of 81%, known as the "green kingdom".
