Funing County Funing County is one of the counties under the jurisdiction of Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province. Located in the middle of the Yangtze Huaihe plain and the coastal area of Jiangsu Province, the county covers an area of 1439 square kilometers with a population of 1.11 million. It has jurisdiction over 13 towns and 4 sub district offices, as well as provincial Funing Economic Development Zone, high tech Zone, Jinsha Lake Tourist Resort, modern Service Industry Park, Gongxing community and Shuoji community. Funing County is adjacent to Jianhu County in the south, Binhai County in the north, Sheyang County in the East, Lianshui County in Huai'an City across the Yellow River in the west, and Chuzhou District in Huai'an City in the southwest.

Funing is a county with a long history. It was called Huangpu in ancient times and Miaowan in Song Dynasty. It was set up in 1731, the ninth year of Yongzheng reign in Qing Dynasty. Since ancient times, it has been known as "hometown of Huai opera", "hometown of acrobatics", "hometown of prose" and "hometown of longevity". Funing is a famous red land. During the Anti Japanese War, the central China Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the military headquarters of the new fourth army moved to Funing for 18 months. Liu Shaoqi, Chen Yi and other revolutionaries of the older generation left brilliant footprints here.

Historical evolution

Ancient Funing territory, coastline in today's county northwest Beisha line. The Huaihe River flows through the territory and goes out to sea from Beisha. In the late Neolithic period, the ancestors had already lived and multiplied. During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, the territory was under the jurisdiction of Wu, Yue and Chu. In the Western Han Dynasty, it belonged to ancient Sheyang County; in the Jin Dynasty, it belonged to Shanyang County.

During the reign of Jin Mingchang, the Yellow River began to seize the Huaihe River. The Yellow River water carried a large amount of sediment deposited outside the Huaihe River Estuary. The coastline gradually moved eastward, and the territory area expanded day by day. During the Hongwu Period of the Ming Dynasty, a group of Suzhou residents moved to other areas.

During the reign of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty, the coastline had moved 90 kilometers eastward. In the ninth year of Yongzheng (1731), the Qing government designated 40 "maps" in the east of Shanyang County, such as Malou and Yangzhai, and 19 "Li" in the north of Yancheng County, such as Miaowan and Caoyan. In addition to the vast beach, Funing County was built under the jurisdiction of Huai'an Prefecture. The total area of the county is 5766.75 square kilometers, including all Binhai County, most of Sheyang County, Jianhu County, Xiangshui County, Chuzhou district and Lianshui County of Huai'an City.

In the early years of the Republic of China, Funing County was under the jurisdiction of Huaiyang Road, Jiangsu Province. In 1932, Funing County was under the jurisdiction of the tenth supervision district of Jiangsu Province.

In 1940, the Anti Japanese democratic regime was established in Northern Jiangsu, and Funing County was subordinate to Huaihai district. In 1941, it was under the jurisdiction of Yanfu District, and in 1945, it was under the jurisdiction of Yanfu district. In the same year, the Anti Japanese war was won. At the end of the year, Funing County was subordinate to the fifth administrative region of the Jiangsu Anhui border region. In February 1947, Funing County was subordinate to the fifth division of the central Jiangsu administrative office. In May 1949, Funing County was subordinate to the Yancheng administrative region of the central Jiangsu administrative office.

After the founding of the people's Republic of China on October 1, 1949, Funing County was subordinate to Yancheng District and Yancheng City in 1983.

Since September 1941, Fudong county (today's Binhai County), Sheyang County, Jianyang county (today's Jianhu County) and lianguanfu border region (today's Xiangshui county) have been established one after another. The area of Funing County has gradually shrunk, and then the districts of neighboring counties have been adjusted several times until December 1956 until now.

Funing County is subordinate to Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, with its back on the northern Jiangsu Plain and facing the water network of Jiangsu Province. It is adjacent to Jianhu County in the south, Binhai County in the north, Sheyang County in the East, Huai'an City and Lianshui County across the Yellow River in the west, and Huai'an District of Huai'an City in the southwest. The county is located between 33 ° 26 ′～ 33 ° 59 ′ N and 119 ° 27 ′～ 119 ° 58 ′ e, 52.5 km long from north to South and 48 km wide from east to west, covering an area of 1438.29 square km.

Climatic characteristics

Funing County is a transitional climate from north subtropical zone to warm temperate zone, which is characterized by significant monsoon, four distinct seasons, abundant rain and hot in the same season, sufficient sunlight and mild climate. Funing County is divided into three geomorphic units

The western part of the county, east of the abandoned Yellow River and west of the Sheyang River Yangang River, belongs to the Huang Huai plain. It is a Yellow River flooded area formed by a large amount of sediment after the Yellow River seizes the Huai River, covering an area of 843 square kilometers, accounting for 58.5% of the total area of Funing County. The ground true height of the waste Yellow River embankment and beach in the west is 8-12 meters, which gradually decreases to the East.
