Tongdao Dong Autonomous County Tongdao Dong Autonomous County is located at the southernmost end of Huaihua City, Hunan Province, and at the junction of Hunan, Guangxi and Guizhou provinces (regions). It is an important road leading to southwest China. Located in the transition zone from the eastern edge of Yunnan Guizhou Plateau to Nanling Mountains, the southwest of Xuefeng mountain extends into the territory, belonging to the Yangtze River and pearl river systems. It is adjacent to Suining County and Chengbu Miao Autonomous County in Hunan Province in the East, Jingzhou Miao and Dong Autonomous County in the north, Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County and Longsheng Ethnic Autonomous County in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in the south, and Liping County in Guizhou Province in the West.
Historically, Tongdao County was the corridor between Chu and Yue, known as "South Chu polar region" and "Baiyue throat". It is 58 km wide from east to west and 68 km long from north to south, with a total area of 2239 square kilometers, accounting for 1.4% of the province's total area. There are mainly 14 fraternal ethnic groups of Dong, Han, Miao and Yao, of which Dong accounts for 78.3% of the total population. Tongdao County is the earliest Minority Autonomous County in Hunan Province. In February 2002, it was listed as the key county in the new round of national poverty alleviation and development. The people's government is located in Shuangjiang town.
Tongdao County is a national greening model county, a national ecological demonstration area, a hometown of Chinese folk culture and art, the best leisure tourism County in China, a favorite tourism destination for Chinese college students, a national leisure agriculture and rural tourism demonstration county, and one of the ten most potential County Tourism counties in China. On February 29, 2020, the people's Government of Hunan Province agreed to withdraw Tongdao Dong Autonomous County from poverty-stricken counties. On October 9, 2020, it was awarded the title of the fourth batch of national ecological civilization construction demonstration cities and counties by the Ministry of ecological environment. On January 29, 2021, it was selected into the list of areas with remarkable achievements in real work in 2020 announced by Hunan Provincial People's government.
Historical evolution
Qin Dynasty is a place of ancient Tan, belonging to Xiang county.
From the Han Dynasty, the Three Kingdoms to the two Jin Dynasties, it was located in Tancheng County, Wuling county (established in the fifth year of emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty).
From the Eastern Jin Dynasty to the Southern Dynasties, Wuyang County of Wuling county was established in the Song Dynasty.
In the Southern Dynasties, Liang, Chen and Sui were the longlonglongdi (changed from Wuyang county) of Yuanling County.
Tang Dynasty is Langxi County, Tanyang County, Xuzhou (separated from Longbiao county).
Song Yuanfeng seven years (1084) home luomengzhai (Yuanyou three years waste, now county stream). In the first year of Chongning (1102), Luomeng county was established to govern Luomeng. It is named after Luomeng mountain. The next year (1103), Luomeng county was changed to Tongdao County, belonging to Jingzhou (formerly Chengzhou, changed in the same year).
In the tenth year of Hongwu (1377) of Ming Dynasty, Tongdao County was withdrawn and merged into Jingzhou. In the thirteenth year of Hongwu (1380) of Ming Dynasty, it was restored to Jingzhou, which was the cause of Qing Dynasty.
In the early Republic of China, Tongdao County was under Chenyuan road. In 1922, Dao was abolished, and the county directly under Hunan Province. In 1936, the administrative supervision system was implemented in Hunan Province. With the adjustment of administrative supervision district, Tongdao County was under the jurisdiction of the fourth, seventh and Tenth District.
After the founding of new China, Tongdao County was successively subordinate to Huitong district (1949.10-1952.8) and Zhijiang district (1952.8-1952.11).
In November 1952, Zhijiang district was renamed Qianyang district and Tongdao County was attached to it.
In April 1954, the State Council decided to abolish Tongdao County and establish Tongdao Dong Autonomous County, which is still under the jurisdiction of Qianyang special region.
In March 1959, Tongdao County and Jing County merged, still known as Tongdao Dong Autonomous County. In July 1961, Tong and Jing were divided.
In June 1981, Qianyang area was renamed Huaihua area and Tongdao County was attached to it.
In May 1998, Huaihua City was built by withdrawing land, and Huaihua area was renamed Huaihua City.
The origin of place names
Historically, the economic and cultural exchanges between the north and the South mostly passed through the channels of the county (now Xianxi town). In 1103, the second year of Chongning in Song Dynasty, Wang Zudao, an official, planned to govern Guangxi from Luomeng (the name of the county where Tongdao was first built), pacified 907 Dongxiang, gathered 64000 strong men, and opened 1200 Li roads. "All the places that he thought he had not been subject to since Han and Tang Dynasties were included in the territory.". Since then, Luomeng county has been changed into Tongdao County, and Tongdao County began to be named as Tongdao County.

When Tongdao County was established in Song Dynasty, it had a small area under its jurisdiction, covering only most of today's Jiangkou, Xianxi, Boyang, Dupo and yatunbu.
After 1951, with the adjustment of administrative divisions, the county area has been expanding. In August 1951, yatunpu, tousuo, Wusuo, Huangbai, diliao, huadizhaishi, dengtuan, chila, Diyong and other villages in Hongzhou District of Liping County, Guizhou Province were under the jurisdiction of Tongdao, with an area of about 10.5 square kilometers; in November of the same year, eight districts of Suining County (Shiyan Township, Rongjiang Township, Banli Township in the former period of the Republic of China) were under the jurisdiction of Tongdao, covering an area of about 1000 square kilometers. In October 1954, Gaobu and Hengling townships in the eight districts of Sanjiang County, Guangxi, were designated as passageways, covering an area of 285 square kilometers. In March 1957, Xikou Township and le'anpu township of Suining County, including Longtang, shanmuqiao, Liantuan and Xiaoshui, were classified as passageways, covering an area of 295.5 square kilometers. So far, the jurisdiction of Tongdao County has been basically finalized, and the total area has not changed greatly. The county is 68 kilometers long from north to South and 58 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 2225.4 square kilometers, equivalent to 3338035 mu.
From 1950 to September 1958, townships were set up below the county level. From October 1958 to 1983, the government and society were integrated into one system, with communes, production brigades and production brigades. In 1984, the government and society system was reformed and the rural system was restored. Communes were changed into townships, production teams into villages, and production teams into villagers' groups. There are 2 towns, 20 townships, 242 villages and 1654 villager groups in the county. On July 7 of this year, with the approval of the provincial people's government, dagaoping Miao Township and Chuansu Yao Township were restored and GuoChong Miao township was newly built. In September of the same year, Xianxi Township and Xianxi town merged to form xinxianxi town.
On September 1, 1986, with the approval of the Provincial Department of civil affairs, Boyang Township and Linkou Township were changed into established towns.
In May 1996, tuantou Township and yatunbu Township were abolished and yatunbu town was established.
In January 1997, Shuangjiang township was abolished and merged into Shuangjiang town; diyangping township was abolished and merged into Xianxi town.
In 2000, qingwuzhou Township and Xikou Township were changed into established towns.
In 2002, urban and rural areas in Gansu Province were changed into towns.
By the end of 2010, there were 8 towns, 13 townships, 252 Village (neighborhood) committees and 1663 villager groups in the county.
In 2015, Tongdao Dong Autonomous County carried out Township Division Adjustment: < ol > < li > agreed that Jiangkou Township, GuoChong Miao Township and Xianxi town should be incorporated into a system and Xianxi town should be established.
