Wolong District, Nanyang City, Henan Province

Wolong District, belonging to Nanyang City, Henan Province, is located in the west of Nanyang city. It is adjacent to Wancheng District and Fangcheng County in the East, Zhenping county in the west, Xinye County in the South and Nanzhao County in the north. It is the seat of the party, government and military organs of Nanyang City, the political, economic, cultural and business center of the city, and the basic space and important carrier for the development of Nanyang city. The total area of the region is 1017 square kilometers.

Wolong District has jurisdiction over two townships (qiliyuan and Wangcun), nine towns (angoo, Liaohe, Qinghua, Luying, yingzhuang, Shiqiao, Pushan, Xiezhuang and liaohepo), seven sub district offices (Meixi, Jingang, WoLonggang, Qiyi, station, Guangwu and Wuhou) and one scenic spot (longwanggou scenic spot office). There are 239 administrative villages and 58 communities. The population of the whole region is 942200.

As the political, economic, cultural, transportation, financial and trade center of Nanyang City, Wolong District has formed an industrial pattern with the secondary industry as the main body, the characteristic economy as the driving force, and the trade service industry as the focus. Historical evolution

The origin of the name

Zhuge Liang, a famous statesman, militarist, litterateur and Prime Minister of Shu state in the Three Kingdoms period, once lived in seclusion in Nanyang and worked hard. He was named Mr. Wolong. His seclusion was called WoLonggang. In 1994, when Nanyang was set up as a municipal district, it got its name because WoLonggang ran through the district.

Evolution of organizational system

Wolong District was established in 1994. Its history can be traced back to its predecessor, Nanyang City (county level).

Nanyang has a long history. In the Western Zhou Dynasty, Nanyang belonged to Jingzhou.

Nanyang County was set up in the early spring and Autumn period. During the Qin and Han Dynasties, Nanyang County was still established.

In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Emperor Guangwu Liu Xiu set up troops in Nanyang and achieved the imperial career. Nanyang was known as "the hometown of the emperor".

Since the Tang Dynasty, Nanyang has set up two prefectures, Deng and Tang. Nanyang Prefecture was set up in Yuan Dynasty, and it was still set up in Ming and Qing Dynasties.

After the founding of new China, Nanyang city was established in 1953, with Nanyang town of Nanyang County as its administrative region.

In 1960, Nanyang County was abolished and merged into Nanyang city. In 1961, Nanyang County was established. In 1994, Nanyang Prefecture, county-level Nanyang city and Nanyang County were abolished and prefecture level Nanyang city was established.

Wolong District and Wancheng District are newly established in Nanyang city. Wolong District has jurisdiction over 11 townships and towns, including Meixi sub district office, qiliyuan Township, Jingang Township, WoLonggang township of Nanyang city and Pushan, Liaohe, Shiqiao village, liaohepo, Xiezhuang, angoo, Wangcun, Qinghua, Luying and yingzhuang of Nanyang County.

At the beginning of 2006, the township division of Wolong District was adjusted, and the original WoLonggang Township, Jingang Township and Meixi street were re divided into seven streets (WoLonggang, Meixi, Jingang, Qiyi, Chezhan, Guangwu and Wuhou); the original liaohepo Township and Xiaozhai Township were merged to form Longxing township.

In November 2009, Nanyang Municipal Government approved the establishment of longwanggou Scenic Area Office in Wolong District as the agency of the district government.

As of November 2009, Wolong District has jurisdiction over 7 streets, 7 towns, 4 townships and 1 Scenic Management Area: Qiyi street, WoLonggang street, Wuhou street, Meixi street, Chezhan street, Guangwu street, Jingang street, Shiqiao Town, Liaohe Town, angoo Town, Pushan Town, Luying Town, Qinghua Town, yingzhuang Town, qiliyuan Township, Xiezhuang Township, Wangcun Township and Longxing township; and longwanggou scenic management area Management District.

On February 6, 2017, Xiezhuang township of Wolong District of Nanyang city was removed from the township and established as Xiezhuang town.

The area is high in the north and low in the south, long in the South and narrow in the East and West. The preliminarily proved mineral resources mainly include limestone, granite, Dushan jade, mineral water, quartzite, borobentonite, crystal stone, clay and so on. The reserves are considerable and have high mining value. Dushan jade, one of the four most famous jades in China, has been mined, processed and carved for thousands of years since the Han Dynasty. Jade carvings, with novel themes and exquisite craftsmanship, are now exported to more than 30 countries and regions in the world.

water resource

There are abundant water resources, including 5 medium-sized reservoirs and 25 small-sized reservoirs in Lanying, longwanggou, zhonggangmiao, guangshiyan and penglikeng, with a storage capacity of 132.03 million cubic meters and relatively complete supporting water conservancy facilities. Rivers crisscross in the area. The larger rivers are Liaohe River in the West and Baihe River in the East, which run through the whole area from north to south.
