Muping District, affiliated to Yantai City, Shandong Province, is located in the east of Jiaodong Peninsula. It is named for its location in the yangpingchuan area of moushan mountain. It is adjacent to the Yellow Sea in the north, Rushan City in the south, Weihai City in the East, Laishan District of Yantai City in the West, Qixia City and Haiyang City of Yantai City in the southwest.

Historical evolution
In the early Han Dynasty (206 BC), Dongmou county was set up in this county, which is subordinate to Donglai County of Qingzhou.
Wang Mang established a new dynasty on behalf of the Han Dynasty. Since the first year of Tianfeng (AD 14), he changed the names of counties on a large scale. Dongmou county was renamed Hongde county.
During the Three Kingdoms period, Dongmou county was still set up in Wei, which was subordinate to Donglai County of Qingzhou.
After the unification of the Sui Dynasty, Muping County still belongs to Wendeng County, but Wendeng county was changed to Laizhou, and later to Donglai county.
In the early Tang Dynasty, Muping County still belongs to Wendeng county.
From the Five Dynasties to the Song Dynasty, Muping County and Dengzhou were set up.
In the 22nd year of Jin Dading (1182), the Ninghai navy was promoted to Ninghai Prefecture. Its governing office is still in Muping County, which governs Muping and Wendeng counties and is subordinate to Shandong east road.
In Yuan Dynasty, Ninghai Prefecture was set up along the border, which still governed Muping County and governed Muping and Wendeng counties. At the beginning, it was attached to Yidu Road, followed by Zilai Road, and Zhili in Zhongshu Province in 1279.
In the first year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1368), Muping County was a native of Ninghai Prefecture, and only Wendeng county was under its jurisdiction. Hongwu nine years to Dengzhou Fu, Ninghai Prefecture. Laizhou and Dengzhou belonged to Shangdong Province at the beginning, and then to Shangdong Chengxuan minister department.
Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), followed the Ming Dynasty.
In 1913, Ninghai Prefecture was changed to Ninghai County; in 1914, Muping County was changed to Ninghai County because of the same name as Ninghai County in Zhejiang Province. It belongs to Jiaodong road. In 1925, it was converted to Hokkaido. In 1928, it was directly under the jurisdiction of Shandong Province. In 1937, it became the seventh administrative region of Shandong Province. From 1938 to 1945, it belonged to Ludong road and Dengzhou road. In January 1941, Muping County Anti Japanese democratic government was established. In October of 1947, it was divided into two counties, Muping and Mudong. In June of the next year, the two counties merged into Muping County, belonging to the Donghai special office of Jiaodong district administrative office.
During the period of the people's Republic of China (1949.10 -), Muping County belonged to Wendeng District of Shandong Province in May 1950, and changed to Laiyang District in March 1956. In November 1958, Muping County was abolished and merged into Yantai city. In November of the next year, Muping County was restored, belonging to Yantai area. In November 1983, Yantai area was changed into a city, and Muping County belongs to Yantai city.
