From 1330 to 1333, the 45th capital to the 52nd capital of Shengye Township in Yongxin Prefecture set up a county, which was named Yongning according to the meaning of Changning. In 1914, because there were four places with the same name in Yongning, the county was renamed Ninggang, which belongs to Luling road. Historical evolution
Since the Eastern Han Dynasty, human beings have been living and reproducing in Jinggangshan region. Since the first year of Taikang in the Western Jin Dynasty (280), this region has belonged to Xichang and Suichuan counties of Luling county. With the change of dynasties and the different establishment, this region still belongs to Yongxin, Suichuan and Taihe (namely, Xiaotong village of Nashan township).

In the ninth year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (1376), the Yuan Dynasty was abolished and the province of Zhongshu was set up, and the Department of Chengxuan political envoys of Jiangxi Province was set up. The whole province was divided into five roads, and the county was under the jurisdiction of Fu and Xian, and the County was under the jurisdiction of Hu Xi Dao Ji'an Fu.

During the period of Jinggangshan struggle, from October 1927 to August 1934, under the leadership of the Hunan Jiangxi border Party of the Communist Party of China, Ninggang established a Soviet government, which successively belonged to the Hunan Jiangxi border workers, peasants and soldiers Soviet government, the southwest Jiangxi Soviet government and the Hunan Jiangxi Provincial Soviet government.
In April 1934, the CPC Hunan Jiangxi Provincial Committee merged Ninggang county and Chaling County into chaning county. In August of the same year, after the sixth Red Army broke through the encirclement from the base area of Hunan and Jiangxi, Ninggang was subordinate to the tenth administrative region of Jiangxi Province of the Kuomintang.
In 1935, the government of the Republic of China reduced Jiangxi Province from 11 administrative regions to 8 administrative regions, and the county was the third administrative region of Jiangxi Province.

In May 1959, Ninggang county was separated from Yongxin County. The former administrative region of Ninggang county (Nashan commune was replaced by Jianggong commune) and Jinggang people's commune in Suichuan County established Jinggangshan Administration Bureau, which was returned to the province directly under the central government.
In November 1959, the organizational system of Ninggang county was restored. The administrative area of Ninggang county was under the jurisdiction of Jinggangshan Administration Bureau, which worked together with Jinggangshan Administration Bureau in Ciping.
