Guixi county was established in the first year of Yongtai (765) of Tang Dynasty, and the county was removed to establish a city in 1996. There are Shanghai Kunming railway, Anhui Jiangxi railway, Yingxia railway, Shanghai Kunming high-speed railway, national highway 320, national highway 206, Shanghai Kunming Expressway and Jinan Guangzhou expressway.

Historical evolution
In the first year of Qianyuan (758) of Tang Dynasty, Xinzhou was set up by cutting Rao, Jian, Qu and Fu. Guixi belonged to Yiyang County of Xinzhou and Yugan County of Rao. In the first year of Yongtai (765), Guixi county was established in the west of Yiyang and the southeast of Yugan, which was under the jurisdiction of Xinzhou.
In 1277, Xinzhou was changed into Xinzhou Road, which belongs to Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces; in 1360, Hu Dahai, the head of Zhu Yuanzhang, took Xinzhou and changed it into Guangxin Prefecture.
In 1647, Qing soldiers occupied Guangxin and Guixi belonged to Guangxin Prefecture of Jiangxi Province.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the prefectures were abolished and Cundao county was established. In the third year of the Republic of China (1914), Jiangxi Province was divided into four districts. Guixi County belonged to Yuzhang Dao. In the 15th year of the Republic of China (1926), Yuzhang Dao was removed and Guixi county was directly under Jiangxi provincial government. In the 24th year of the Republic of China (1935), Jiangxi Province was reduced to eight administrative regions. In the 28th year of the Republic of China (1939), Jiangxi Province was established again In August 1942, Jiangxi Province was divided into nine administrative regions, and Guixi still belongs to the sixth administrative region.
On May 4, 1949, the fourth corps of the second field army of the Chinese people's Liberation Army liberated Guixi. On July 7, the people's Government of Guixi county was established, which is under the jurisdiction of Guixi Commissioner's Office (located in Yingtan) established on the same day. On August 13, the office of the Commissioner of Guixi was abolished, and Guixi county was transferred to the office of the Commissioner of Shangrao.
On October 1, 1949, when the people's Republic of China was founded, Jiangxi Province was divided into nine special areas. In 1952, it was reorganized into six special zones. Guixi County successively belongs to Shangrao district.
In July 1983, Yingtan was upgraded to a provincial city, and Guixi county was changed to Yingtan City.
In October 1996, Guixi county was set up as a city instead of a county.
