Shangli County Shangli County, under the jurisdiction of Pingxiang City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the west of Jiangxi Province. To the north of Pingxiang City, it is adjacent to Yichun City and Luxi County in the East, Anyuan Economic Development Zone and Xiangdong District in the south, Liling City in Hunan Province in the West and Liuyang City in the north. The total area is 702 square kilometers. By the end of 2018, Shangli County had jurisdiction over 6 towns and 4 townships, with a total population of 522200.
Shangli County gave birth to the founder of firecracker Li Dan, gifted scholar Liu fenggao, historian Li youtang and the first Secretary of Jiangxi provincial Party committee Zhang Guoshu. Shangli is the hometown of fireworks, Nuo culture, folk art, modern folk painting and forest city in Jiangxi Province. In March 2019, it was identified as the first batch of county list of revolutionary cultural relics protection and utilization area.
In 2018, Shangli County achieved a GDP of 17.72 billion yuan and a total fiscal revenue of 2.346 billion yuan. On February 13, 2020, it won the title of national "safe agricultural machinery" Demonstration County in 2019.
Historical evolution
As far back as 4000 years ago in the Neolithic age, a branch of the Baiyue people lived and multiplied in Shangli.
In 184 BC, Shangli area was under the jurisdiction of Liling County, Hunan Province.
During the Taikang period of the Western Jin Dynasty (280-289), Shangli area was separated from Liling and put under the jurisdiction of Kangle County, Yuzhang prefecture (now Wanzai).
In 589, Kangle county was removed and Jiancheng county was established. Shangli area was separated from Kangle county and was under the jurisdiction of Pingxiang county.
During the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, song, yuan, Ming, Qing and the early Republic of China, Shangli was under the jurisdiction of Pingxiang county.
On October 1, 1949, after the founding of the people's Republic of China, Shangli was under the jurisdiction of Pingxiang county.
In January 1971, with the approval of Jiangxi Provincial Revolutionary Committee, Shangli became a county-level district under Pingxiang City.
In 1980, Pingxiang city established Chengguan District, Shangli District, Xiangdong district and Luxi district.
On November 13, 1997, the State Council approved the abolition of Shangli District of Pingxiang City and the establishment of Shangli County.
